Beauty and Wisdom - Altering the Perception of Aging

By Robbie Kaye, Photographer and Guest Contributor

Why is it a daunting task to alter the perception of aging and beauty when we all do it? What if there were billboards of sexy 50 and 60 year olds doing sports or just close ups of their aged faces? What if there were pictures of older men and women in hair salons? Why should…

My Afterlife Series - The Wakeup Call

By Susan Keats, Contributor &  Seize-the-Day Propagandist

Greetings from my after life.

I’m not dead yet, by the way, but I had a glimpse of my death recently and I realized, upon considering it, that I was completely unprepared to have it arrive so soon. Why is it that sometimes we need a good kick in the teeth every so often to get us to sit up…

Shoe Review: Desert Boots

I have a new craving this fall. It’s hitting me hard. I’ll need to satisfy it soon…It’s for a desert boot, with updated styling à la 2011.

FYI, the Desert Boot is now 62 years young. This enduring style with the crepe sole has many fans. My sister and I were among some of the early fans. I remember us both sporting a pair of the “originals” (but we didn’t need to call them that back then…) as little girls and feeling very cool in a tomboyish and powerful sort of way.

And now is…

More Shoes with a Cause

We love to support companies that do great work here and abroad. By now, we are all now quite familiar with (and wearing) Toms Shoes and we love the great work the company does around the world (Did you know that Toms does eyewear now, under the same One-for-One principle).  In fact, we…

A Simple Secret to Feeling Great

By Marjie Killeen, Contributor- Midlife Wisdom

In the fifth month of my midlife crisis, I went on a retreat to a health spa – alone – to get motivated to take better care of my middle-aged self. It was a wonderful luxury to focus on what I needed for a change, as opposed to worrying about everyone else in my family. In addition to working out and eating healthy spa cuisine, I learned a simple…

Take a Compliment Like a Man

By Marjie Killeen, Contributor- Midlife Wisdom

As part of my midlife crisis, I’ve been considering the theme of empowerment. Because even though I’m on fire in many areas of my life, I sometimes feel insecure about my choices, or worry what other people think, or downplay my accomplishments.  You know who doesn’t waste time undermining themselves this way? Men!

Men are comfortable talking about…

It's Me-Covery Time!

I love that term. But I can take no credit for it. Me-Covery is actually marketing-speak. It’s a term coined by well-known marketing firm, Saatchi & Saatchi, to describe how consumers are now looking for ways to take care of themselves (a recovery of self), especially following the financial and emotional hardships caused by our Great Recession.

Indeed, as overworked, overburdened, overstressed women, doesn’t a little ME-covery sound perfect just about……

Girl's Night In

By Lisa Hughes Anderson - Guest Contributor

Sometimes it takes getting away to come back to yourself again.

What better way to raise your spirits than to spend a carefree night with good friends. I suggest an old fashioned sleepover, just like we use to do as kids. Gather up the girlfriends and host a night in pj’s and sweats. Order pizzas,…

This is Not the Career I Ordered

I became a Social Worker right after I graduated from University.  When my husband was first transferred to the States, I had lots of time one my hands so I decided to try yoga. After my first yoga class I was hooked and became immersed in the yoga community to a point where I was offered a job and soon worked my way up to a senior position at a large yoga…
