Spring Into Action - Make One Improvement at Work

It is fantastic for an entrepreneur to spring into action by making one improvement in her business. It is scary to look at a long list of improvements needed and not know where to begin or if the list will ever get completed. There is reason to smile however. The list can be completed, it can be managed. Step by step, piece by piece, the list can get done, and completing tasks is contagious. Spring into action and start making improvements to your business because it is necessary, it…

Get a Loving Attitude Toward Your Work - Have Some Pride

It is wonderful to develop a loving attitude toward your work and having some pride in what you do. In my opinion, a good place to work is anyplace that pays a fair wage for a fair amount of labor. Based upon that definition, there are good places to work in almost every industry and almost every person has the ability to work for a good employer. Your job and how it is viewed is determined by you. It is important to have a sense of pride about the work that you do in order to have the…

A Good Attitude Makes Work and Home Problems Seem Better

Even though it is hard, it is fantastic to have work and home obligations.  Women who work have professional obligations that must be met on a regular basis. At the same time, any woman with a family has obligations to her family that must be met on a daily basis. For some people, attempting to balance these obligations is overwhelming.  For me, the solution to these competing obligations is getting dressed before I get out of bed.…

Love Work for the Adult Interaction

Human beings are inherently social beings. For the most part we enjoy being around people, talking with them, watching them, sharing ideas and experiences with them. Among other things, work gives us the opportunity for adult interaction.

Love Home - It Makes Work Worth Doing

It is fantastic to have a good home life because it makes going to work worth doing. For many people the biggest joy they have in life is the ability to come home at the end of a long day and get hugs and kisses from family members. It makes all the stresses of the day seem worthwhile when you have a loving home to return to each day.

The movie The Wiz had a great song about home. One of my favorite lines from the song is, "When I think of home I think of a place where there…

Love Technology - It is an Organizational Marvel

Years ago I kept a day planner. One of those fancy loose-leaf books with a calendar, to do list, planning sheets and a section for contacts. I liked my day planner. Each morning I would review my calendar and to do list to see what was going on that day. Each afternoon I would carefully move items from one day to another according to the day's events. At the end of each year, I travelled to the planning store and looked at the planning and calendar pages and carefully chose the appropriate…

Love Taking Action, Because Faith Without Work is Dead

It is magnificent to fall in love with taking action because faith without work is dead.

I am part of a few accountability circles. One I formed with two women after a conference last October. We had some starts and stops and we are still working our way through how to make the group work, but we are working it out. I have another accountability group formed with two business partners. We are informal in our interaction, but we hold each other accountable and provide each other with…

Fall in Love with Work - It Makes Home Possible

It is fantastic to love work because it makes good things at home possible.
For many people going to work is a chore, something they do because they must, something they hate. As a result, these people start the day with a bad attitude toward work and continue with a bad attitude throughout the day. Imagine what would happen if instead those people started the day with a good attitude and continued it throughout the day. Instead of hating work and dreading the approach of each…

Fall in Love with Your Job Because Paychecks are Nice

Each workday, people all over America wake up, shower, dress and go off to work. Many of those people are not happy about having to go to work each day. Some of them even curse the fact that they must go to work. I am proposing that instead of hate, those people start looking at their jobs with a loving attitude.  Think about it. When a person is in love, the person is kind, considerate and speaks with a kind voice. When a person is in love, she does not insult the object of her love. A…

Love - Satisfying Work and a Good Family

Readers of a certain age will remember the movie Mahogany  starring Diana Ross and Billie Dee Williams. There was a great line in the movie where Billie Dee's character told Diana Ross' character that all her success at work meant nothing if she had no one at home with whom to share it. For me, having a loving, caring family at home to share my successes and accomplishments is more valuable than the accomplishments and successes.

I like to call myself a Proverbs Wife.…

Balancing Home and Work By Sharing Stories

Many people go to work each day, perform their duties and then come home to their families and never talk about work. Similarly, many people go to work each day and share nothing of their personal lives with their co-workers. On the surface, this may seem like a good way of doing things, keeping work and home in separate categories. However, things are not always what they seem. By keeping work and home in separate categories that never intermingle a person keeps her life out of balance.…

How to Succeed at Work - Respect Those in Authority

Many people are at work complaining about how much they hate the supervisor, how stupid the boss is and how no one running the company has a good idea about anything. For these people respect for those in authority is a foreign concept. It is no wonder that people with this attitude find it difficult to succeed in the workplace. It reminds me of a line from a Staples Singers song, "if you disrepect everyone that you run into, how in the world to you expect anyone to respect…

It's Work, Go to Work and Don't Play Around

Here is a new idea for some people: go to work and actually work. There are quite a few people all across America who go to work each day and look for ways to skip as much work as possible. Think about how little sense that makes. It really does not make sense to go to work and complain to that you have to well, work. But, each day millions of people are going to work and spending countless house figuring out ways to look busy while not actually being busy doing the work their employers…

Best Method for Cleaning Your Breast Pump While On the Go or at Work

In June of 2011, I began using a breast pump on a regular basis to start building a stash of breast milk for my baby so that he would have plenty of milk once I returned back to work. When I returned to work, I knew exactly where I would have to use my breast pump but I never did put much thought into how I planned on cleaning my breast pump parts after I finished a pumping session. Luckily at my job, we had a break room that had a clean sink. Thankfully, I didn’t have to worry about…

Fantastic Friday - Balancing Home and Work with Technology

Fantastic Friday - it is fantastic to use technology to balance home and work.

A few months ago my husband, Darren, was doing work that required him to travel out-of-state for two weeks at a time and then work at home for two weeks. Our family is a close one. We enjoy each other's company and like to hang out, laugh, watch movies and music videos together. So having him gone for extended periods for a long period of time was hard on all of us. But, I put on my big girl panties and…

Who Needs Rechargeable Batteries When You Have...

There is nothing like working in the restaurant industry to make you doubt the sanity and rationalizing abilities of our species.

Like yesterday, when I had a woman ask for a new wine glass because her glass smelled funny.  Let me repeat that.  The GLASS SMELLED FUNNY.  The wine was fine, but man that cup had to go.

It takes a certain type of crazy to deal with people like that.  Luckily I seem to have it covered.

But…
