Women Entrepreneurs Making a Difference

In September 2008, the financial world erupted when the largest global economic crisis in recent history rippled across the country.  Experts proclaimed that it would take five years for unemployment rates to recoup, and six years for the housing market.  Nearly five years in, and the state of this nation’s economy is still teetering on unsteady ground.…

GEMS for Working Moms

Is your life an endless cycle, revolving around work and taking care of the kids? If so, you’re not alone. In a recent study by the Families and Work Institute, ½ of American women say they don’t have enough time to spend on themselves and to choose the activities they enjoy. We all know that saying ‘yes’ to more responsibility can make us feel safer with the boss and help us avoid conflict in the family. But too often ‘yes’ is our default mode with just about…

Home and Work Are Independent - Work at Work

It is fantastic to know that work and home are independent entities, so do your work at work. Work, also know as employment, is commonly defined as the state of having paid work, one's trade or profession. Work is a serious activity. Employers who are paying people to work, expect them to work. While it is typical for employees to spend a little work time goofing off or doing personal things, both these activities are frowned on my most employers. When the goofing off at work or spending…

Orange park Florida Momma's

I am looking for anyone that has old cell phones, and ink cartridges and toners. I am collecting these because I have an agency that takes them and pays me for it. Because I am unable to work outside the home, I find eventful and easy ways that I can do to keep me busy. I am doing this to work on getting my life straight, and also working on getting a new wheelchair. So if your in the Jacksonville or Orange Park area, and you wouldn't have an issue giving me the used cartridges and toners…

My Daughter’s Second Cochlear Implant Surgery

Today is the day that my daughter gets her second cochlear implant.  I have to admit even though I have already been through this same surgery 12 years ago with my daughter, I was still nervous going into the hospital and waiting for her to have her surgery done.  My daughter was born with a severe to profound hearing loss in both ears.  In 2001, she received her first cochlear implant only on her right side and at that time doctors typically implanted only one side.  Cochlear implants…

Balance Work and Home to Avoid Excess

It is fantastic to balance obligations at home and work by avoiding concentrating on either area to excess. Excess is commonly defined as an amount that is more than necessary, permitted, or desirable. It is not ideal to live in excess. Balancing our obligations to home and to work is a balancing act. When I think of it I always think of a seesaw with the things I need to do for home on one side and the things I need to do for work on the other side. A reality is that many women work at home…

Being a Parent & Working from Home, Is there a balance?

Have you ever thought of the challenges one might face if they work from home and manage a busy household? For scheduling purposes they would usually  take the easy route and work when their kids and spouse are not at home. Easy peasy right?

What about holiday weeks, school breaks(summer, winter, spring), and sick days? How do you juggle being a great asset to your company or keep good merits…

Do You Feel As If You Are Constantly Missing Work Because Your Baby is Sick?

Infants and toddlers seems as if they are constantly sick for the first years of their life, especially, if they attend daycare.  When my son was younger and we put him in daycare, it seemed as if he was sick with something every few weeks.  We have to alternate days off and one of us would have to end up…

Make an Action List - Spring Into Improving Your Business

It is thrilling to spring into action and improve your business by creating an improvement  action list. One of the worst things a business owner can do is get complacent. A complacent entrepreneur does not think about ways to improve her business.  Complacency means the death of innovation, improvement and growth. If you find yourself growing complacent with how things are going in your business, step back and look at your business through the objective  eyes of an…

Spring Into Action - Make One Improvement at Work

It is fantastic for an entrepreneur to spring into action by making one improvement in her business. It is scary to look at a long list of improvements needed and not know where to begin or if the list will ever get completed. There is reason to smile however. The list can be completed, it can be managed. Step by step, piece by piece, the list can get done, and completing tasks is contagious. Spring into action and start making improvements to your business because it is necessary, it…

Get a Loving Attitude Toward Your Work - Have Some Pride

It is wonderful to develop a loving attitude toward your work and having some pride in what you do. In my opinion, a good place to work is anyplace that pays a fair wage for a fair amount of labor. Based upon that definition, there are good places to work in almost every industry and almost every person has the ability to work for a good employer. Your job and how it is viewed is determined by you. It is important to have a sense of pride about the work that you do in order to have the…

A Good Attitude Makes Work and Home Problems Seem Better

Even though it is hard, it is fantastic to have work and home obligations.  Women who work have professional obligations that must be met on a regular basis. At the same time, any woman with a family has obligations to her family that must be met on a daily basis. For some people, attempting to balance these obligations is overwhelming.  For me, the solution to these competing obligations is getting dressed before I get out of bed.…

Love Work for the Adult Interaction

Human beings are inherently social beings. For the most part we enjoy being around people, talking with them, watching them, sharing ideas and experiences with them. Among other things, work gives us the opportunity for adult interaction.

Love Home - It Makes Work Worth Doing

It is fantastic to have a good home life because it makes going to work worth doing. For many people the biggest joy they have in life is the ability to come home at the end of a long day and get hugs and kisses from family members. It makes all the stresses of the day seem worthwhile when you have a loving home to return to each day.

The movie The Wiz had a great song about home. One of my favorite lines from the song is, "When I think of home I think of a place where there…
