Being a stay-at-home mom can be more time-consuming than the job you held before the children arrived. Taking care of children, the house and the yard is an endless job and you don't get a paycheck for it at the end of the week. For this reason, many mothers start flexible businesses at home and become work-at-home mothers. From babysitting to designing websites, creative moms are finding way to earn some extra cash. Discover four reasons to get…Continue

This week is a busy week for me. My kids finish school tomorrow. The next day – Wednesday – is the first official day of summer break for them and then I leave for a work conference on Thursday. My younger two kids do not particularly love when I travel for work, so last year around this time when I left for…Continue
No, I'm serious...this time!
OK, OK, I know you've "read it all before" when it comes to me posting about going to workout, or going to follow a plan, but by George I think I've finally got it! A few days…

A woman in my office took off one Friday, and at about 9:30 am, I received an email from her. She wasn't showing as online, but she was definitely answering emails. I wrote her back, told her she was busted and reminded her that she was supposed to be off.
I get it: Sometimes it is hard to unplug from the…

This is sooo very cool. I've been doing it since January for Purina, Dollar General, Oil of Olay, NutriSystem, Samsung, Crest and Braun. Why not get paid for something you like to do, right? The joy is you get to do it from the comfort of your own home too.
I've been working with IZEA since the beginning of January advertising and have been paid already for the brand names I mentioned above to post and tweet. All I have to do is bid on their job and I just paid $5.00 up front to…Continue

We fight for a fair maternity leave, and a supportive work environment tooth and nail. We do so because we deserve to have a balance between family life and work. If the organizations themselves were aware of the benefits of maternity leave to the organization itself, I think the battle would get much easier. Not only does maternity leave benefit the organization, it also "greatly" benefits the economy. …Continue

I have really been in a funk lately. My mind has been a whirlwind of emotions & thoughts. Ever since my youngest, my baby, turned 4years old I have been giving myself a hard time. I feel this pressure, entirely from myself, but pressure no less, to work. Not that I don’t work now, in fact I feel like this is the hardest I have ever worked in my life! My husband and I are a bit old school. He works outside the home. I do all the household chores, all things clothes and food…Continue

I have never been a model employee. From the age of 14 until I was 25, I've held around 12 jobs (I may be forgetting a couple). In each and every one of these positions, I would show up to work and do my job with one foot out the door. When I worked at Wal-Mart, I was forever filling up receipt tape with random notes to myself. Story ideas, song lyrics, scraps of poetry, random observations. I'd watch the customers for inspiration for character's that I would one day write about. I'd…Continue

It is fantastic to realize that when it comes to work life balance you can succeed by being your own super hero. When my oldest daughter was a little girl she watched a movie from the Cheetah Girls with words to a song something similar to this:
I don't want to be like Cinderella

Want to know one of my biggest pet peeves?
The chronic complainer who LOVES to point out problems but NEVER volunteers a solution.
Those people irritate the hell out of me.
Guess what? If you want to be successful in business, DON'T be one of those people.
I'm fired up, can't you tell with all the caps? LOL!
Now, I can certainly appreciate the fact that people may get deterred by a lot of red tape and invisible barriers to change within their corporate…Continue

I've been looking for a sturdy weight bench for my husband but one in my budget that can still give us the features we need. I was seriously considering Gold's Gym XRS 20 Olympic Workout Bench (still considering it), but I would have to buy the bar and weight plates separate which I didn't want do. I came across the CAP set (currently under $100), which wouldn't take up as much space, which means I wouldn't have to get rid of…Continue

It is fantastic to know you can balance work if you organize your life the right way. Almost every day I field questions from friends, associates or co-workers about how to balance work, home and everything. They wonder how I am able to keep all the balls in the air. Often they are looking for the magic bullet or secret potion that makes balance possible and easy. The fact is, there is no magic bullet, no secret potion. If…Continue
