There are many women who have decided willingly or unwillingly to settle down and have a family. This also means that they put an end to their career lives and have no source of income. They are responsible for taking care of the house and family and have to depend on their husband’s financially. This has caused a lot of stir for the new generation moms who like being financially independent.
Taking care of the house is no doubt, the…Continue

I like to listen to my son talk about his plans for the future. They include him working as an engineer in NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, yet somehow living next door to me so he can help me cook sometimes. These plans also include him being a marine biologist on the weekends.
When he tells me all about his…

Giving birth, whether naturally or by C-section, takes a toll on a woman’s body and sometimes her mind. Having to go back to work within weeks or 3 months of giving birth does not allow a family the time to adapt and bond with their new addition. Unfortunately, in the United States returning to work within 3 months of having a child is the norm and for most families a must. Other families run into the hard situation where both parent’s need to work to support the family, but child care costs…Continue

Most moms have so little time to get into a regular home exercise program. Not only do they get so busy taking care of the kids, some of the today's moms also work at home, which makes it even harder to get to the gym or join a health club. There are errands to run, shopping to do, housework, soccer practice,…Continue
My husband and I are planners. So, when it came to us having a baby, we mapped it all out: When we would start trying, what potential names we liked, and childcare after the baby was born. We were lucky in the fact that it didn't take us long to get pregnant, and although we had some wrenches thrown into the plan that required adjustments, we are a very happy family today.…Continue

I am fortunate enough to have an amazing group of people who report into me at work. But I am on their case right now: I want them to take some time off. I'm asking them to look at their calendars from now until the end of the year and plug in the days they want off. I am not worried about being understaffed over the holidays or about them taking days all at once - I am worried that they will not use their vacation days at…Continue

My son wants to know when we are going on vacation again. It is a subject he is highly interested in as of late. It may be because we've had some really memorable ones as a family and he wants to recreate the adventure, but my guess is that he just wants a break from school.…

I am super glad that I am a woman.
Like most people, I have thought about what life must be like to be the opposite gender (people do think about that, right?) and I have determined that being a guy must be hard. I can't imagine walking around with their equipment all day or having difficulty focusing on…
HISTORY DOESN’T DEFINE YOU. YOUR CHOICES DOES
Imagine that you stand on the edge of a platform at the swimming pool... Blindfolded!
You have no idea how high up the platform is, if it is the 1-meter, 5-meter or the 10-meter platform. You have no idea if there is water in…Continue

The bears in my household outnumber me. They are there in the morning, facing me with their anger at the fact that the sun has risen in the sky yet again, forcing them from their slumber and making them face another day. I try to focus on my thankfulness that it is another beautiful day; I try to enjoy the morning...but why do people think that it is OK to be…Continue

In my life right now, I have two very active toddlers and a 6 month old puppy who is already 50+ lbs. Jason and I have been trying to get out of debt, off and on for the last 3 1/2 years. Of course things happen and every now and then, we go backwards. Right now we are right back in it and working hard. He has been really great trying to pick up any extra shift that comes available to him. As you all know, I stay at home and don't have an income that will help us. If we really want…Continue

I think by now, most Americans realize they don't take enough vacation. There are plenty of stories out there telling us we don't use all our vacation time, and polls measuring how many people are going to take a vacation this year and even reminders that vacations actually boost…Continue

Before I begin today, I understand that there have been a lot of studies debunking the idea that birth order is something that influences people's behaviors.
But I am still fascinated by birth order and how often it works out. It may one day be designated as "the modern-day astrology," but I am…

I hate to bum you out on a Friday, but if you are a working woman, you have to see this. On this link from the Wall Street Journal is a chart showing how women earn less than men in 439 of the 446 major U.S. jobs.…Continue
Recently, my coworkers and I watched a TED Talk by Susan Cain around the power of introverts. After the talk, we all took a quiz to determine where we fell on the introvert - extrovert spectrum. It was fun to see who was a full-blown introvert and who was more of an extrovert.…Continue

It’s a platform to invest and mentor women entrepreneurs and consists of men and women who have achieved great heights, who are willing to give their time and money to support Indian women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses. My son often tells me that when he grows up he wants to come and work at my job. He has plans to sit in the cube next to mine and be on my team. He also wants to help distribute candy when the team needs a little pick-me-up on rough days and have lunch with me every day.…Continue

In my job, I get to interview a fair number of applicants. I like that part of my role - meeting new people, hearing about their career journeys and goals, and asking why they want to join my team. I have HR-approved questions to ensure that I never ask an "illegal" question, but I am always surprised at how many people just offer up additional details around their life - especially when it comes to parenthood.…Continue

Several months ago when I started Opt-Out Revolutionary, a blog about the much-discussed (and often misunderstood) opt-out revolution, I set out to interview stay-at-home-mothers and working moms alike with one key question in mind: How can today’s women build satisfying, joy-filled careers and raise healthy, happy kids without constantly feeling…Continue
