I have spoken with several aspiring writers recently and the consensus is that they feel overwhelmed and lost. The questions of where to begin and how to write a query letter are frequent. I have also heard the question regarding how to pitch an idea to a magazine without having any clips. Breaking into a career as a freelance writer can be daunting. I am lumping myself in with the pack of people who dream of the day where writing is their sole career and a profitable one at… Continue

Life seems repeatitive. Life seems long and dramatic. Life seems unfair and
at times unbearable. Life seems to be a series of games. One day you're the winner and the next you're being played. Life is...
It's being what everyone else wants you to be. It's being what is acceptable. It's hiding the real and showcasing the mask. Life is...
Life is all of that…

One great writer once told me that some people have it, some people don’t.
And then you have Larry Bird, one monstrous, awkward cement mixer in the middle of the basketball court. He should be just standing there and get paid, you know what I mean? He’s an OBSTACLE not a basketball player! And yet, he’s one of the most amazing players known to man. Apart from that lithe speed-of-light Jordan guy. Phew!!
Larry Bird who moves at a speed so slow, I could beat him to the net.… Continue

The Hilarious Book I Did Not Write
by Pam Victor
Catherine Newman wrote the book that I should have written, and I’m trying not to hate her for it. “Waiting for Birdy” is the hilariously neurotic tale of the year she was pregnant with her second child. I’ve passed around the book to every woman I know, saying “If you’re not laughing out loud by the second page, then just put it down,” under my breath adding, “and get a sense of humor.” This author represents Everymother, and… Continue

When I started my business, I had a handful of books to guide me. But what I really wanted was a guide - for someone to literally propel me through the process, hold me accountable and steer me in the right direction.

I have teenagers living in my house. If you are at all familiar with this irrational and often irritating species (homo smartaleckus), you are offering me your condolences right now.
You also know that these creatures are embarrassed by the very existence of their parents. This is a perfectly natural part of the maturation process. I can remember, as a teen, thinking my parents were utterly clueless idiots. But my folks never provided me with the kind of proof of parental derangement… Continue
