This is a political post. Yes, I know I said they would be rare, but I'm fired up. I have stated a number of times that I am a walking oxymoron. My liberal friends laugh and say, “You should be a liberal,” and my conservative friends often just look at me with their mouths hanging open while I discuss being anti- vaccine or pro-natural childbirth. The reality is this: I am a conservative and I believe in individual responsibility, economic freedom, and limited government.…

Yesterday my little girl got her ears pierced. We did it with her cousins; it was exciting and thrilling for her and she hardly cried at all. Proud Mama moment. In spite of this, I’m left feeling sad. Like a part of my baby’s innocence is now gone, never to return. It’s like she’s growing up and I made a conscious effort today to assist in that. I know its silly, but it’s how I feel. I cling to her innocence. I love when she needs my cuddles and I savor every time she cries and I’m able to…

Lately I have been struggling with my food choices. I love unhealthy food- aka. crappy food! I love cheddar cheese, white sour dough bread, shrimp, Chipotle burritos, pasta, butter, desserts, and so forth. While some people may not view this type of food as crap, I know it is. When I eat it, my body becomes weak and unhealthy. I am searching for a balance.

I made my first gluten free desert. I’m proud of myself, and even my husband said it tasted good. A few weeks ago, I started the Blood Type Diet and I’d been craving something with substance.

Somedays all I want to do is yoga. I need it, I yearn for it, and I crave it. The urge is similar to that of an alcoholic- I just want it. Last Wednesday was one of those days.
I had accomplished all of my morning cleaning, the girls were fed and dressed, and the laundry was going while the rain pitter-pattered outside on a gloomy June 1st (probably the reason I need to do yoga is because this weather is depressing). It was 10:30 and everything was in place: Baby girl #2 and…

Today I took my daughters to a Memorial Day event. We attended because I wanted to show support to our service men and women, past and present. I was thrilled to see the huge number of people who showed up in a small town to give honor to our military. It was a beautiful event, with all branches of the military present, blue star & gold star moms, and World War II veterans. Speeches were presented, songs sung, and honor given to those who served and also to those who have members of…

While I was running today alone (a luxury), I was listening uninterrupted (another luxury) to my favorite conservative talk show host: Dana Loesch. She broadcasts out of St. Louis, and I love her, agree with her the majority of the time, and listen religiously. Dana Loesch is one of my heroes- up there with Ann Coulter, Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, Phyllis Schlafly, and yes, even Sarah Palin.

Somedays I just need SUGAR and CHOCOLATE. I know it's bad, I know it goes straight to my stomach and butt (lately neither need it). I know all the negative consequences it does to the inside of my body that are not seen by the public eye, and even that it's poison in some extent. But some days I just NEED it. Call it what you will: PMS, craving, Chocoholic, whatever. I need it. So a few weeks ago I did this recipe from…

Yesterday after a leisurely trip to farmers market, I was ready and prepped to cook baby Girl #2 some yummy food for the next few weeks. I had three bunches of carrots, one bunch of beets, a bag of spinach, small potatoes, and apples. The ingredients cost less than $10 and I was able to make over ten trays of baby food.

Two Fridays ago I did a blog on A Thankful Heart, addressing an idea a friend did for Lent- forty days to mentally and spiritually prepare for the Easter celebration. Since I admired this idea, I listed the first seven days in that blog. Here is the next week and half. One more blog will follow to conclude Lent.…
