Today begins our first day of homeschooling as a complete family. For a number of reasons our oldest is now home, continuing 2nd grade in a new way. This is not the path I imagined we'd walk when I first became a mother or a teacher, but it's the direction the last eight years has gradually pointed toward. We are so excited to be beginning.
The stories and resources I've found online have made homeschooling feel possible. I don't…Continue

My family and I will be creating ornaments for our tree every night for the next 21 days out of treasures found in the woods, recycled materials, and left over craft supplies.
Feel free to link up your own creations!

Last week there was this beautiful theme circulating on many of the blogs I read. Each writer, in their own way, reminding themselves and their readers that perfection is what holds us back from being happy, connecting to others, and being true to ourselves. It's recognizing that who we are is ENOUGH that matters and creates change...
If you haven't seen the Ted talk by Brene Brown on Shame and Vulnerablility- it's worth your time multipled by a billion- …Continue

A year ago, when I first started envisioning my time home, it looked very much like now- more time to write, to read books without having to create lessons for extra digestion; time to create with my wee people, and most importantly time to pause, breathe, and be in the moment. Time as a working mother was going just too fast. The…Continue

So very excited to be over at Rhythm of the Home talking about how to make reusable snack bags and how to foster gratitude without forcing children to say thank you. If you haven't checked out this online magazine, it's a must! So full of crafts and simple living topics, it's worth the days you'll need to take to read all of it's rich content. I hope you'll join me. Links can be found …Continue

Thinking it's time we got even more simple- less focused on stuff- more focused on what really makes a difference in our lives...

Thoughts on nature, walks with family, and finding stillness

For nine years I spent most of my days surrounded by other people's children- teaching them to love to read and write (or at least not hate it). For nine years I desperately tried to balance my school room hat and my mama hat. Things were lost in the mix. Life was good, but always fast paced- too fast.
There were external things going on too- issues I could no longer overlook. After a year of deliberation, I left my job to stay at home, homeschool our preschool age daughter, and find…Continue

For years I have been buying expensive organic or natural products for our bodies and home, and it's been a frustrating process. I'm frustrated that there are HARMFUL products allowed to be sold in this country, I'm frustrated the ones that aren't are often more than I can afford. And until recently, I was frustrated with myself for not having enough time to make my own. I assumed it was very time consuming and as a working mom there was no way I could add one more thing to my to…Continue

These days, after being a full time working mom, I am home with my two slowly figuring out the balance in being home. These days I am a single mom while my husband takes time to finish research. While we are used to summers like this, there is always a learning curve. I have grand plans of all the things I can accomplish now that I'm not working- all the things that I wished I could do August through May. It's a tall order, and soon I figure out that it's too tall. These days I'm reminding…Continue

I have started organizing my recipes on my blog. A process for sure! I love whole food, simple, seasonal meals. My children, very normal and sometimes very picky children, eat greens and all sorts real foods that I would have never touched as a child. I'd love for you to check out my page and keep checking back as I bring more and more meals to the table.
