UNICEF Halloween Trick or Treat Boxes and Beyond

We have all heard about UNICEF, an acronym for the United Nations Children’s Fund (the I for International and the E for Emergency were dropped in 1953).UNICEF has been around since the 1940′s and was initially created to provide for children in countries that had been devastated by WWII. Today, UNICEF operates in more than 150 countries and provide humanitarian relief to focus on saving children’s…

Watch Top Documentary Films - For Free

I love my book club. It consists of twelve mothers, of all ages, each with very different taste in books, but we love our monthly get-togethers. We laugh, we share and we talk – A LOT!  Each year, we each sign up for a month to host the club. The host is responsible for choosing the book, hosting the event in her home and supplying food and drink for the evening. It is acknowledged…

Clever Find - Poachie's Egg Poacher

It’s the little things in life that make us happy, right? Like the perspective of successfully poaching egg without having a nervous breakdown in the making of it (i.e. achieving that elusive balance of having the egg white set and the yolk still runny).

And, I mean the real poaching, in boiling water, not the cheating kind with all the chichi non-stick poaching skillets and other similar electric versions. I’m going to buy a specialized skillet just to make my occasional Eggs Benedict?…

3 Ways to Stop Procrastinating

By Marjie Killeen, Contributor- Midlife Wisdom

The death of Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs at age 56 made many of us keenly aware that our time here on earth is limited and if we want to live our lives to the fullest and realize our dreams, we’d better get going now. However, it isn’t that easy to take your life in a new direction, especially if you’re a procrastinator like me. I’ve found all sorts of…

One Greeting Card for Any Occasion

If you are like me, you keep a drawer or file folder full of cards for every occasion – because you never know when you will need a good card at the last minute. The last time I went through my cards, I  realized that there were some that I no longer found funny, appropriate or even nice looking and really wondered why I bought them in the first place (see the not-so-pretty evidence at right).

I gave a bunch to my daughters to use for their art projects and realized…

DIY Halloween for the Non-Crafty Person

I will be the first to admit that Halloween is probably my least favorite festivity. But that does not mean I am a party pooper. Au contraire! With two young girls in the house, I have to keep my ghoulish spirits up during this time of year.

And although I can’t say either that I am a very crafty person, I do like to do fun projects with my girls who love being creative. So, this year I searched for a few simple things for us to do together and I came up with some great…

Cleaning Your Jewelry in the Dishwasher

That’s what I said! When I met Jacque Egnatic, the inventor of Jeweler in the Dishwasher, at a recent trade show, I’m sure that I had this dumb, questioning look on my face. What? Clean my fine jewels in the……

Forget the Mixer - Just Get a Blender Bottle

When I was over for dinner at my friend Jill’s home, she used this great bottle called the Blender Bottle to make her salad dressing. Although it was a simple oil, vinegar, garlic, lemon juice and salt dressing, the Blender Bottle emulsified all the ingredients perfectly and made the salad dressing light and airy.…

Everyday Love

By Jennifer Urezzio, Contributor – Spiritual Affairs

“You must love yourself before anyone else can…”

The above statement is old and true. Why? Simply, if you don’t show yourself love and compassion no matter what anyone says or does, it will feel as…

Mood Lighting with CFL Lights

Much to my chagrin, we are now in that time of year when days are getting noticeably shorter (I almost feel the vitamin D leaving my body as I type…). The lights in the house will indubitably get turned on earlier in the morning and earlier in the evening. I never used to think about how much energy a light bulb consumed but now, in trying to conserve resources, I do think about it every time I turn on a light.

It’s a good time of year to let you know about a product that I just…

Dedicated Post - MyCoupon.com

I consider myself a pretty savvy shopper. When I am heading to the store, I always first check online for coupons. For instance, when I need to buy dog food at a major pet store, I’ll usually find a printable coupon that saves me at least $10.00 on each purchase. Plus, if I need staples like  laundry soap or toilet paper, I always look to see what coupons I can print before I head to the store. With my…

Easier and Greener Leaf Pick-Up - dSolv

I will admit that I do not have much use for an eco-friendly leaf pick up and biodegradable bag as I live in Southern California, but I do remember that while growing up in Canada, raking the leaves before the first snowfall was a task for the entire family.

Dsolv bags makes this chore a little bit…

Clever Find - The Rice Cube

I love kitchen gadgets, such specialized little contraptions, most invented to gracefully accomplish a single tricky task. And I love sushi. LOVE sushi. Even took a class to learn to make my own to fix my constant cravings. That was a mess.

So imagine the extent of my adoration for this invention: the…

Trend - Minimalist Wardrobe

The sad state of our economy and our increased willingness to be good to Mother Earth has motivated us to think in new ways about our wardrobes. It’s a case of less is more. It’s a little bit of a scary notion for some of us, to think that maybe only one pair of shoes and less than a dozen garment pieces and and handful of accessories would suffice, but the merits of a minimalist wardrobe need to be considered.…

Save the Ta-Tas - Pink Hair Project
