Let me tell you how I really feel!

Let me tell you how I really feel (as if that’s a rarity).  I really feel like women with husbands, who have been out of work for an extended period of time, need to pony up. That’s right, I said it! These women need to get off their asses and stop putting an enormous amount of pressure on your husband to find a new career or job –…

Same Sex Marriage. Thanks for the Nod. What about Job Creation?!

Obviously the word is out- no pun intended. Obama supports same-sex marriages and further believes it’s up to the individual states to decide - a bit of a contradiction, no?  On the cover of Newsweek’s May 21 issue Obama was dubbed as the “First Gay President.”   Although no laws have been changed, nor new bills signed, it is nice to know Obama believes all…

9/11, in Memory

As you are well aware, the 10th anniversary of the attacks on America took place this past September 11th.  Like most, I sat idol and watched the children, no older than my own, read their daddy’s names aloud, and proud, in memory. When tragedy strikes, one often remembers the exact moment and location, or even the smell of the brand new carpet that one was sitting upon.  I remember… Continue

Irene is a B!tch!

Irene is a b!tch! There, I said it.  This awful being caused the cancellation of our family flight home from the west coast and delayed my recent blog posts!  She also caused the upheaval of so many friends and family as we took in un-housed guests of our own.  Such community damage tends to bring out the best in people with grand gestures of kindness and a willingness to help.  I do hope those of you who were affected leaned on your network of friends and family to get you through this… Continue

Free to Be!

I celebrated America’s 235th birthday yesterday- ahh, Independence Day!  Amidst the spectacular fireworks display, I looked around me and saw all ethnic groups, all religions, all getting along.  Freedom at its finest.

Personally, I feel a sense of freedom that is unfamiliar and unlike any other I’ve felt in the past eleven years. I am uncomfortable at times as I begin to embrace this new concept of timelessness… You see, my kids are away at summer camp.  Although this… Continue

Summer Lovin'

Summer congers up images of sand, surf, swimming, sailing and perhaps the thought of, some serious sweating.   Summer is a season that I most enjoy (except when I have to work inside on the most magnificent of days) and Summer is the name of a woman I so admire.  I had the great pleasure of interviewing … Continue

Suicide- A Young Girl Kills Herself

A beautiful young girl took her own life due to high-pressured academics in our achievement obsessed-culture, inspiring a filmmaker to create change in her MUST SEE documentary entitled, THE RACE TO NOWHERE. Add to academics, multiple team sports, AP classes, community service, an instrument (if they…

Post Mother's Day. I Have Something to Admit.

As a follow-up to last week’s Weekly Wings, where I came clean about wanting the gift of “time” for Mother’s Day, I have something further to admit. The gift of time, I realize, is a gift that we must give to ourselves… when the time is right. What I thought I wanted on Mother’s Day, to spend some much-needed time alone at the gym, was trumped by my daughter’s sweet request to bike alongside me while I ran, so that we could have some “girl time.” Venturing off to exercise solo no longer…

What is the single biggest challenge you face as a working mother? According to Dr. Robi Ludwig, Butterfly mom and nationally known Psychotherapist, one of the biggest obstacles mothers face is not knowing how to take time out for themselves- without feeling guilty.

How to Lose that Muffin Top! Spring has sprung- not your waistlines too!

How ironic that I awoke to the beauty of snow - covered trees this very a.m. as today marks the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. What is even more odd is that on this very date, thirteen years ago, flakes fell from the sky on my wedding day in New York City. This is “snow joke.”

Dare I mention that bathing suit season is around the corner? This gives us harried moms three short months to…

Japan's Quake and Tsunami. Life is not fair.

We are reminded yet again of the fragility of life. The record-breaking earthquake in Japan this past Friday triggered a destructive tsunami, swallowing the lives of thousands. After learning of the news, my 10-year old son innocently turned to me with fear in his eyes and asked, “Mom, will there ever be a tsunami where we live?” I simply hugged him with a reassuring embrace (the kind where we… Continue

Oscar Party, Gold Party, Get Paid to Party?

I’d be remised if I didn’t acknowledge the sweeping Oscar win for Best Actress in a Leading Role by mom-to-be, Natalie Portman, for her outstanding performance in the quite twisted, but brilliant, Black Swan. Pre-baby bump, Natalie spent one-year training to acquire such a…
