Bradi Nathan's Blog (96)

Gloria Allred, Nick Lachey and Butterfly, Oh My!

We are on a high and it's not the kind of high we fear for our children. Terry and I have just wrapped up our trip to Los Angeles where we continued our commitment to delivering inspiring and empowering mom mentor videos. Our interviews took us to Gloria Allred's office where she revealed that she felt as if she were in the midst of a Tsunami as the Tiger Woods case reached its climax (no pun intended). We witnessed the softer side of Gloria that day, a woman who was overcome with feelings of… Continue

December "Wrap Up": Things You Should Know

We do hope you enjoyed your families this Thanksgiving and that you were able to put work aside, if only for one day. As we begin the 2009 home stretch we thought we'd "wrap up" some business on our end:

1. Butterfly's Marketplace Directory

We know how tempting it is to promote your business and to solicit new customers via Butterfly's Blog- truly we do. However, please resist the… Continue

Why I Am Grateful This Thanksgiving

There's a reason why they call it the Christmas Spectacular. It truly is spectacular to see the Rockettes perform at Radio City, New York City. My biz partner, Terry, and I were invited with our families to meet and mingle with the Rockettes and Santa, of course. The show promises to dazzle (my six year old particularly loved the sparkley leotards and high kicks) and entertain (our boys loved the 3-D movie, feeling as if snowballs were being thrown their way). Did you know that many of the… Continue

Why I Love Scott Fox's Book, Internet Riches

I always loved reading "Cliff Notes" as a young student. Not as a means of beating the system but as a way to quickly learn the pertinent information at hand. Come to think of it, moms deserve cliff notes because we need to absorb things fast and furiously as we go about our day multitasking carpools and kids, work, school, house, parents... need I say more? Today I thought I'd do you the honor of creating a short list, cliff notes if you will, from the book that got us started on the Butterfly… Continue

The Real Housewives of NJ

We love The Real Housewives of New Jersey! Hell, we love all "real" housewives for that matter. Today, the definition of housewife has taken on a whole new meaning, as evidenced at our event this past Friday night with the stars of The Real Housewives of NJ. Before we share the fabulous details of our evening, or dish on Dina Manzo and her sister, know this: According to Wikipedia (our trusted definition resource), "Housewife is a term used to describe a married female who is not… Continue

7 Tips for Return to Work Moms

“I relaunch”, as in I was out of work for a period of time and now would like, or need, to go back to work. MyWorkButterfly.com had the great pleasure of being a media sponsor for the recent iRelaunch conference held this past week at Seton Hall University. I learned much that day from the founders of iRelaunch, Carol and Vivian, and from the corporate participants: Morgan Stanley, Accenture and Goldman Sachs representatives, all of whom embrace many of you who are return-to-work moms. Carol… Continue

Halloween Tricks and Contest Treats

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year- what a bonus for working moms! No need to race home from work to take your children door to door. No need to feel guilty that you can't make it home until past dark. Halloween is on Saturday this year- what a wonderful thing! My son is of the age where he thinks it's hysterical to dress up like a cheerleader and actually convinced me to buy him the outfit. Pom poms and all. My daughter, on the other hand, had her mind set on being Hannah Montana which… Continue

The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything

Would it shock you to learn that American companies haven't kept up with the changes in today's workforce or with their families? I think not. On October 16th, this little known fact became official as the Center for American Progress and Maria Shriver released “The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything.” This release reveals that, "For the first time in our nation’s history, one-half of all U.S. workers are women, and mothers are the primary breadwinners or co-breadwinners in… Continue

Breast Caner Awareness Month and The Women We Honor

My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy at a time when I was too young to even understand what that meant. I am now 38 and acutely aware of what it means as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My grandmother outlived her cancer, dying of natural causes, and I know many of you who are taking care of your elders or dear friends are praying for the same outcome.

Not too long ago I was introduced to a few remarkable women who created the TNBC foundation in… Continue

MyWorkButterfly.com, has conducted a National Mom’s Survey and we thank those of you who have taken the time to complete it. The idea was/is to learn more about you, as moms and to design the most resourceful site to fit your needs. In response, we asked Julie Potischman, Butterfly's resident psychotherapist the… Continue

Nick Lachey. Not Just a Dream!

My nine-year old asked, "Mom, do you think I can play in the NFL one day?" A huge smile came across my face because you have to know that my son is only 65 pounds, wet. "You can do anything you put your mind to. Dream big," I told him. I too loved sports as a kid, softball being my forte. And while I still continue to play the sport in a local women's town league, I am no Kim Clijsters. Terry my biz partner, having played tennis as a child, had a much better shot at mastering the game of tennis… Continue

We Are Mothers Before Workers

I do hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day, a holiday that originated in Canada out of labor disputes in the 1870's... who knew? Funny how these disputes press on some 200 years later as I remind you of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act recently passed by Obama.

Although, I can't say I was in much of a celebratory mood this Labor Day as I absorbed the news of the recent death of Ted Kennedy and a lesser known, DJ AM. Loved him or hated him as a politician, Ted Kennedy leaves behind five… Continue

Do You Love Basketball? Want to Spend the Day WIth Your Daughter?

Love Basketball? Wanna Take Center Stage in MSG at Half-Time?

When I was growing up in Westchester, NY in the 60's, my brother was regularly asked by my dad to go see the all-star, championship NBA team, the "New York Knickerbockers" (aka Knicks) play. Yes, those were the days of Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschere, Earl the Pearl, Willis Reed, Senator Bill Bradley and other "dream-team" players of all time. When my dad would ask my brother, never considering that I would find basketball… Continue

A Working Mom's Business Banter

I have learned that in business, and in life, that "All is fair in love and war." What does this mean exactly? Well, if you must know, it traces back to John Lyly's "Euphues" (1598). The quote was "The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war." John was a Renaissance English poet and playwright and certainly a man ahead of his time in recognizing that there are many a people who do not play fair. I imagine that some of you who are reading this now may be cursing those who have wronged… Continue
