Symptoms to Take Notice of in Children

The NHS has been facing ever-increasing pressures in recent years, with slashed budgets, staff shortages and lack of resources taking its toll on the quality of care. One of the many ways we commonly see the impact of these pressures is in waiting times for GP…

Mother of the Bride Guide

The day you’ve dreamed of for years has finally arrived! Your little girl is all grown up and has chosen a partner to start her life with, and you are officially a MoB -- Mother of the Bride! While congratulatory remarks are appropriate at this juncture, so are a few…

How to Through A Larger Than Life Small Wedding on a Budget

This one is as simple as crowdfunding your honeymoon. It might sound strange at first, but do you really need another blender or set of dinner plates? Instead of having your guests purchase a bunch of things you’ll end up trying to return anyway, why not let them chip in for…

Power Outage in Snowstorm a Blessing in Disguise

It was the biggest snowstorm our area had seen in more than two decades. Nearly a foot of snow had already piled up by the time we woke up the morning after Christmas, and the snow continued throughout the day. We were… Continue

Easy Bake Oven is a Hot Mess

Whoever invented the Easy Bake Oven should be forced to eat nothing but Easy Bake foods for the rest of his life. These things have been around for almost 50 years. You'd think someone would have figured out by now that it's more fun to buy some real cookie mix, bake it in the real oven, and actually eat the cookies. The stuff that comes out of that cheap plastic, light-bulb heated contraption isn't even close to food. It's like some kind of dehydrated space food from NASA.

Here is my… Continue

Breast Obsession and Our Kids

Forgive me if this post violates the family-friendly atmosphere I try to maintain here at Momniscient, but I just had to make some comments about boobs. The issue of big breasts hit me (almost literally) the other day…

Defiant Children and Natural Consequences

It was a snowy morning at the bus stop, and the grass was wet and icy. So I told the kids to stay out of the grass and stand on the street so their shoes wouldn't get wet. For reasons I will never understand, Miles decided to take this directive as a challenge. He looked right at me…

Best and Worst Fast Food Kids' Meals

I am a bit obsessive when it comes to feeding my kids. When I start looking at labels and realizing that EVERYTHING they eat has sugar, salt, and disgusting chemicals it just makes me crazy! Even so-called "healthy" foods like yogurt and granola bars are loaded with refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup. It makes me want to move to a cabin in the woods and feed the kids…

Do Your Kids Sleep With You?

An article on the Access Hollywood Web site recently got my attention: "Mayim Bialik Talks Unconventional Parenting." I was interested first of all because it was about Blossom. Can you believe that show was 20 years ago? Will that poor girl ever NOT be Blossom??

Second of all, it was about "unconventional parenting," and I had to read it because I was sure…

Christmas Ideas To Stay Stress Free

Christmas can be the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, but it can also be the Most Stressful Time of the Year. All that shopping, planning, decorating, baking and traveling can turn a lovely holiday season into an anxiety-filled nightmare.

I'm as guilty as the next perfectionist. I want everything to look, smell, and feel just as it did when I was growing up. And when it doesn't, it means I am a failure. I have failed to "do" Christmas well.

I can't tell you how many times I…
