Fun Repurposing Projects for Those Old Blinds

No room is complete without the right blinds! But, that doesn’t mean the same set of blinds will look right at home in your living room until the end…

How to Glam up Your Everyday Office Look in the Winters

While formal wear in the summers mean quickly pairing a top with trousers, looking glam while also beating the chills can sometimes be tricky. While dropping temperatures bring with them several style options, they may not be your best bet in a professional…

Curse You Transformers

Well, they are back! The Transformers are waging another battle of good vs. evil on the big screen. This means that we will get a chance to witness the Autobots and the Decepticons duking it out under the guise of sending a positive message about how good always prevails over evil, and as a bonus blowing A LOT of stuff up in the process. I would not care about this in the least except that along with the new movie the new Transformer merchandise has landed. I am especially irritated because I… Continue

In the event this were an actual emergency ...

Kids are demanding, impatient, and to them everything is important. They often lack the impulse control to prioritize their needs and think it appropriate to scream at the top of their lungs to convey their concerns. As I am writing this it occurs to me that it is not really just a kid thing, because that description could easily fit several of my bosses and maybe one or two past boyfriends. In any case, in our house we are working on patience and self control to try and deal with our needs… Continue

Questions for the Ages

To say that Mr. 5-year old is curious would be an understatement. He asks questions about everything, and if he happens to hear you mention something in passing he will open a line of questioning that would put the Spanish Inquisition to shame. I used to look a lot of things up because I felt like it was important to give him accurate information, that and I was tired of feeling like I was not smarter than a preschooler. All the research became exhausting. I still try to answer his questions,… Continue

The Not So Friendly Skies

Once upon a time I was a working girl ... I know given my current lack of brain cells it is hard to believe. However, I assure you it was true! My status as a working girl required me to travel A LOT, and I am painfully familiar with the trials and tribulations of navigating airline travel. Over the course of my traveling career, I have been bumped, canceled, weather delayed, rerouted, diverted, stranded without luggage, forced to spend the night at the airport, and inconvenienced in every… Continue

Bootcamp - A New Form of Torture

Let me just start out by saying that I hate exercise! I am not one of those people that will talk about the Endorphin rush, mental clarity, or sense of accomplishment that comes from a difficult work out. For me, exercise is a necessary evil - a means to an end, kind of like bikini waxing and childbirth. Exercise is just one more thing on a already long list of chores that needs to be done everyday - it ranks right after locating and cleaning up the unknown smell in my mini van and right before… Continue

Are Pajamas the New Clothes

Over the last month or so Mr. 5-year old has asked me on a few different occasions if I was wearing my pajamas - sometimes in the middle of the day and even once at the mall. I kind of chalked it up to his general lack of fashion sense. After all this is the boy that insists that he will not wear his "new" jeans despite the fact that the old ones are starting to resemble Capri pants (not a good look for boys - even in the Spring), and I have reminded him on more than one occasion that shorts,… Continue

Oprah and My Recurring Nightmare

I do not get a lot of time to watch tv, especially during the day. The majority of my interaction with my tv comes from deleting stuff I never have time to watch off of my TIVO. Having said that, I have a recurring nightmare courtesy of Oprah Winfrey. You may be thinking that it is related to her shows about puppy mills, or Dr. Oz's explanations and on-air demonstrations of diseased hearts, lungs, brains, etc., or the plight of women in third world countries. Granted all those things have the… Continue

One of Those Moms

I am afraid ... terrified in fact that it has finally happened to me. It has taken the better part of 5 years, but I am almost positive that the transformation is complete. In a startling, Invasion of the Body Snatchers kind of way I have become one of THOSE moms. It was easier to identify them before I had kids - in fact they were everywhere then. I occasionally see them now, but admittedly a lot less frequently than I used to. You know what I am talking about! THOSE moms that seem to not… Continue
