Juicing ~ Where To Begin?

So you keep hearing about the health benefits of juice. You have heard people claim they have found renewed energy and dropped to half their original larger self. It seems to be the Fountain of Youth delivered at your doorstep! Where do you begin? Well a quick Google search will present you with more information, recipes and testimonies then you may need. You can, if you have the time, patience and perseverance necessary, rifle and sift through all that information or I can just tell you…

Julia's Rainbow Fund is launched!

This a quick post to inform you all that Julia’s Rainbow Fund is up and running! We were off to a limping start when our website wouldn’t accept donations, but I believe that is repaired…

A trip 5 years in the making ... or was that Forty Five?

So It is already a month into the summer break and I am amazed, as I always am, by the swiftness of time. Like many of us I have two favorite times, Summer and the Holiday Season. Both have a huge build up and both are over entirely too soon. My object for each is to enjoy every moment. I am off to a good start with this season.

We started this summer by making our first trip back to New York since we left almost 5 years ago.…

A quick Update ....

We were in the Hem/onc clinic again yesterday for Julia’s lab check. The procedure is quick and painless … for most … but it sets fear in my sould each month. I am guessing Julia is feeling the same way because she promptly passed out after the fingerstick and blood draw. Yup. Green, pale and gray … then slid right out of her chair. So the visit ended up a bit longer…

Saying Goodbye in Her Own Way ....

So Friday evening came and we were dressed and ready in our pink dresses to go pay our respects to Julia’s friend and her family. This would have been her first wake and funeral and I know she didn’t know what to expect. We discussed it over and over again. Sometimes with tears, sometimes with giggles and always with her heart on her sleeve. When it came time to leave…

Hellos and Goodbyes

Hello friends and readers. It has been a while since I have updated here, but the end of school and a fabulous trip to our Hometown in New York have kept me away from the keyboard. I would love to tell you in detail about our Excellent Adventure, but that will wait until another day.…

So much happiness in my life

It has been a wonderful time the last week or so. I had a blessed Mother’s Day with my children, a great conversation with my stepson and the sun shone bright all day on the strawberry fields as we picked 15 pounds of berries that were gone, with the help of the neighborhood kids, in 3 days. I have found a new revived spirit in my work and am beginning a journey that seems I was put here to do. My husband seems to love me more than ever and I am surrounded by amazing people in my life both…

Catching up ....

So it’s been awhile since I have updated here. This was somewhat intentional as too many things were hanging in the air and I decided to step back and wait before putting it all out there. I know … so unlike me. Anyway, all is well and we have made it through yet another stressful time as a family.…

Getting my hands dirty again felt real good!

For those that have been in the proximity of my life and circus for the past few years, you will understand what I mean when I say how exhilarated I felt this afternoon after planting silly little flowers, bushes and trees without worrying what anyone thought or said. Without rehashing it all and pointing fingers, let me just say how nice it was to be able to do what we used to enjoy before my daughter got so sick and we had to give up spending even small amounts of money and time on things…

My Baby Girl’s Divaversary!

What a day it has been! Today marks the one year anniversary since Julia’s last chemotherapy treatment. I am so excited that this day was able to be marked in a significant, though not loud celebratory, way. Thanks to Carolinas Healthcare Foundation, I was able to get the website up for…

Pediatric Cancer ~ Warning signs

As a nurse and a mom of a cancer fighter, I have been asked many times over by concerned parents, how I knew something was wrong with my daughter and how would they ever know if their child had cancer. There are so many answers to this last question. Frankly there are probably as many answers as there are children and different forms of pediatric cancer. Unfortunately the only true answer I can…

A quiet, or at least peaceful, Homecoming to Strawberry Seeds…

Hello Stranger! Actually it is me that has been the stranger as I know so many of you have been checking in here only to the Same Ol’ Same Ol’. I apologize. Life around here has been crazy busy but we are all fine.

I have had a bit of a…

The ultimate commercial message ~ “This Can’t all have been for nothing!”

Happy Twenty Ten to all of you! I am posting here, and everywhere else I can think of, to ask for help. No worries …. Julia is fine. As a matter of fact tomorrow is a monthly clinic appointment and we are optimistic that everything shall continue to progress normally. “No more Cancer in 2010″ is our mantra!

What I am looking for is a business minded person who can help us get Julia’s Rainbow up and running. I have come to the realization that though I have the enthusiasm and drive, I do… Continue

Your gonna shoot your eye out ya cotton headed ninny muggins! Or ~ my therapy for a typical day in December…

So as you “regular readers” know, I have decided to become a physically better person. I am following a program that will supposedly take me from a couch potato to an athlete running a 5k in 9 weeks! Yesterday I “ran” my first day. I felt good about myself, though admittedly I hated every second of it. My theory is if I don’t forget how horrible it felt I will never let myself get in that shape again.… Continue

Holiday Tunes, Stress and a 5K?

First let me share with you some of my favorite Christmas songs. If you read this from my actual site, just turn the volume up if you want to enjoy my gift to you ... or down if you need silence! I love the music at this time of year. The old stuff brings me back to innocent (and not so innocent) days of my past and the newer ones are forming memories for my kids. Just love it.

Anyway, in my exhaustion of the past week I forgot to mention in… Continue

For you Photographers out there!

This is just a quick blurb about an organization a local photographer started and I just think word of it needs to be spread.

So many of you are such good photographers and have such a gift. I know many of you have come across families in need and wondered what you could do to help. At the same time Angela Shea of Celebrate Life is trying to bring her idea nation wide. Take a peak at what she does and I am sure many of you will… Continue

Mean kids' parents suck!

Alright Moms and Dads out there, I need your support. I am amazed by what some kids are allowed to get away with.

When Julia was bald and not feeling or looking so great, though always beautiful to us of course, no one would ever let their child stare or comment. If they even looked at her too long someone would say something to intercede and redirect. The world around us had sympathy and understood how much those things could hurt. Kids don’t know that they are being mean or that… Continue
