Religion in my home is always Interesting!

Forgive me as I repeat a story some of you may have heard, but it still makes me smile to this day and yesterday Greg said something that reminded me of it again.

Back after September 11th there were hundreds … no thousands of memorials and services of every kind. Being in New York at that time, as many of you can attest to, was a surreal experience and one I pray no one has to ever live through again regardless how proud I am to claim my Native New Yorker status. It seemed there was not a… Continue

A lesson about the past

I think I have finally realized, after a lifetime of drama, that I cannot change my past. I can only examine it, honor it for what it was and move on to what is now.

Did it have to take so long to come to this? Most people, I believe, learn this at a much earlier age. Even my children know if something isn’t working, try a bit and then go on to the next thing. Me? Nope. I get stuck in the holding pattern of What ifs and If Onlys. I will take an incident or relationship and toss it around… Continue

Skin Cancer like beauty, is more than skin deep

In honor of the first day of Summer, which was yesterday, Welcome to my Public Service Announcement today. For those that have known me awhile, and even if you don’t, you know my disdain for cancer. It isn’t just because I lost my dad and my daughter has been fighting it most of her life, though that is more than enough reason for sure! Some of my older friends here know that I lost my first husband, Rob, to melanoma. It was first spotted on the top of his head by the woman that cut his hair.… Continue

I ain't that perfect!

Don't you just love when you find out you are not alone? I don't mean alone in the literal sense, but when you think you must be the darkest, most horrible wife and mother on the planet ... and then you find you aren't! That at least if you are, you have company! That others have days just as bad. I have been convinced lately that the rest of the world has perfect relationships with each other. Perfect marriages, perfect parents, perfect children, perfect friendships.

Yes, I know there is… Continue

the Love of Motherhood

Like all mothers out there, I love all my children the same, but differently. The amount of love I have for each of them is immeasurable, but the things I love about them and the experiences I have with each of them are quite different.

I love my first born in a special way, because he is just that … my first born. Together we have experienced so many firsts that have been indelibley etched in my brain and on my heart. God willing, we will have many more before my journey is through.… Continue

Oh sure, so NOW I get it!

I had one of those revelations the other day that really should have come at a much earlier point in my development. I can’t even remember what spurred it on, but I finally figured out that if I tell people what I am thinking, rather than have them figure it out on their own, things tend to go much smoother. It is so easy to misinterpret words, expressions and phrases that are bandied about without thought. I find that people either (a) give me too much credit and read way too much into what I… Continue

Do you, should you, fight in front of your kids?

An interesting conversation took place between my son and I last night. He was visibly shaken from the news that friends of ours are in the midst of a divorce. They have young children and, from his point of view, an ideal life. He could not grasp that they could really be separating. They always seemed to be so happy and he said to me, with his eyes looking up while his head bent down, "Mom, don't take this the wrong way, but if I had to pick between you and Dad or Mr. and Mrs. X. getting… Continue
