Any of you who know me know I am not a big fan of Fox News or any news that gives me only one side of a story or argument. I also vaccinate my kids and believe most are designed to keep my own children healthy as well as those in my community. That being said, I am recommending you watch a video on Fox News about the risk of vaccinating your child against H1N1 and other vaccines in general. This Dr. has the same general viewpoint as I do and I found it refreshing.
Should you… Continue

It is quickly creeping up on us. The holiday giving season, complete with requests from organizations all over the gamut. I know so many people and companies are financially hurting right now and many that want to give are thinking a bit more carefully about if and who they will give to.
There are many ways to share your blessings. There will be phone calls, emails and snail mails from everyone in the coming weeks telling you why you should give to them. I have already received a few… Continue

MMMMMM! My kitchen smells so good! I know this is really going to come as a surprise to so many who know me, but I have been cooking! I have had chicken soup going in some form or another, on and off, for a few weeks since the weather turned colder. The crockpot is smokin’! Well, steaming would maybe be a better word.
This afternoon though is a different recipe that I haven’t done in a long while and am happy to introduce to my four year old kitchen.
Artichokes a la… Continue

There is great concern, bordering on hysteria about the swine flu/ H1N1 virus spreading across the country and beyond and the battle over who should and shouldn’t get the vaccine. Pregnant women are getting mixed messages and several hundred (already suffering) kids have passed away from the flu, as they do each year. Rightfully so, everyone is worried about the children and what they should do to protect them.
There is great concern about child abduction. There have been terribly… Continue

I have been working some extra shifts to catch up to so many bills that have accumulated over the past months and years. I am grateful beyond measure that I have a job to work at and that I am able to get some extra work occasionally. That being said, I was driving home the other night thinking about how lucky previous generations of our Mothers were and how they had it so much easier.
Imagine just being able to have that One Hat to wear ~being a mom and housewife minus the taxi… Continue

So here we are at another October page on the calender. As most of you know this is the month that changed my family’s life for the better and the worse. Julia was diagnosed 5 years ago this month and we are looking back from this place where we are now, in awe. Julia is still doing well and is almost 7 months out of treatment this time. We are beyond happy but never relieved. This past few weeks has brought many declarations of bad news in our little… Continue

So I know we are all busy with our lives and families, careers and relationships. Life seems to be moving ahead at a ”Warp 10 Mr. Sulu” rate (I promise that is the first and last Start Trek reference ever in this blog!) and we are all looking to technology to help us keep things straight or speed things up. We have email, Twitter, Facebook, texting and of course cell phones attached to all of our wrists. When things are moving this quickly, it is comforting to know that some things cannot and… Continue

I am a firm believer that things don’t happen without a good reason. I have always believed that everything happens within a bigger plan and when we look back on it later it will seem so obvious. I will also say that my experience has been that when I am in the midst of the drama it can be quite difficult to see what the hell it all means. It has happened this way almost every step of my life. For most calamities I have come to terms and found some peace in the way things turned out. There are… Continue

To all of you out there wearing your gold ribbons and spreading the word of how desperately we are in need of research and funding and research and more funding so children don’t have to fight and suffer and die from a disease that every adult is afraid of … thank you! I sincerely appreciate it and am touched by your caring.
Now I hate to say it, but I am so tired. I am so tired of thinking about it, reading about it, screaming about it, crying about it and not getting anyone outside… Continue

My daughter’s life, as those of all of our children, is made up of milestones. To be perfectly honest, until recently, most of them were pretty crappy. Date of diagnosis, date of relapse, first time hair fell out, first time hair grew in, first friend lost to cancer (that continues to be the most heartbreaking), first time she understood she had cancer, first … well you get the idea. Recently we have been celebrating happier and more hopeful milestones. First “first day of school” without… Continue

So we all know by now that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, right? Many of us are hoping for a cure for our children, but many are asking how they can know if their child may be ill. Here is a short list of things to look for… and I have added some to the bottom.
Continued, unexplained weight loss
Headaches, often with early morning vomiting
Increased swelling or persistent pain in bones, joints, back, or legs
Lump or mass, especially in the abdomen,… Continue

Did you ever feel like you are really really stupid and missing the point or that you are simply smarter than everyone else and it is so much more simple than they are making it seem? That is how I am feeling right now. I just don’t get it.
Most confusing to me, why would people be threatening to keep their children home from school because the president will be speaking to the kids about education?! I am stunned. He is our president, as was his predecessor. You don’t have to agree… Continue

My sweet little girl isn’t as “sweet” as she was yesterday. I should have known when she got in the backseat at the car rider lane that something was up, but I was too distracted with some antics of her brother. Normally the routine conversation goes something like this, “So guys, how was your day?” Julia will always speak up first, “Well, Johnny had to pull a strip and Susie just can’t seem to be quiet and Mary had to change seats because she wouldn’t stop talking to Bobby. It was a good day… Continue

Today begins a month of rememberance and tribute and committment to change and cures. I am also in the midst of the last two weeks of my last class of my degree program, so I will start off by re-posting my thoughts from a year ago. Thanks for reading and remember to wear your gold ribbon! Sadly we have lost several of the children I was referring to in this post and many more have joined the ranks… Cancer just keeps coming….
Bear with me on this one … I have run out of Kleenex and… Continue

The end of summer … the beginning of a new school year. For so many of us these are exciting times. I still remember those feelings of Labor Day Weekends gone by when we couldn’t wait to wear our new clothes for the first day, regardless of the fact that it was still summer and our long sleeve shirts and corduroys would be a bit warm in a building with no air conditioning. It was about looking good, not feeling good!
Many years later, I still get that nervous feeling in my stomach.… Continue

When you have children there are aalways new milestones and not all occur with big fanfare. Some sneak up on you when you aren’t expecting it and those can be the most celebratory of all.
Last night I witnessed several with my daughter. We headed into the Time Warner Cable Arena to see the Jonas Brothers as she is obsessed with these boys and just can’t decide which one she will marry FIRST! Yes, I am working on that … she is not understanding that we marry for LIFE not til the next… Continue

My Little Drama Mama!
August 20th, 2009 | Author: Kathy
Please excuse this late and short update. The day has totally got away from me and here I sit at 12:30 in the morning typing away. I am becoming more of a night owl every day … errr … night!
Anyway! Thank you for the skeenteenth time for all the love and support that is always sent our way. May none of you ever need to know how important it is to have this holding you up, but trust me … it is… Continue

Today was not a great day. Nothing severe or life changing happened. Just not a great day. I am sure most of it had to do with the date, August 18th. This would have been our 19th wedding anniversary if my first husband had beat the cancer that eventually took him and left me a 29 year old widow. Then I think about how blessed I am to have had two chances with men who have loved me so much. I would never have been blessed with the three little people I am Mommy to now.
This is how… Continue

For those that have been hanging with me for awhile, you know what happens in September. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! Just as we have all come to know October as Pink Breast Cancer Month (still very important!!!), I would like you to think of September as Gold Kid’s Cancer Month! This year September 12th has been recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. I am telling you now so… Continue
