Assault with a deadly IKEA dresser

Whitney and Heidi share a bedroom. And when I say ‘share,’ I mean

occasionally when Whitney’s feeling extra generous, she allows Heidi to

*look* at the toys...the one’s they ‘share.’ So referring to it as

‘sharing’ might be playing it a little fast and loose. However, the one

thing they do ‘share’ in their bedroom is their thirst to destroy it. I

don’t mean burning it to ground kind of…

Prescription drugs were not required in the writing of this post

When I first relaunched this site, I told you I’d be transferring posts from that old site over to this new one. So that’s just what I did...I’d open up the old site, choose an old post, read the old post and then lie down next to my desk on the floor until the muscle relaxer I’d taken kicked in. Every word I read was processed in my brain and then sent down into my body where it responded by contorting and contracting in embarrassment.…

Our 'Parents Ask' Video: THE SEQUEL

The second Parents Ask episode, featuring a slice of our Groenevelt lunacy, went live yesterday. It’s called ‘Mom of All Ages.’ A title the producer and I didn’t see eye to eye on. I really thought they should have gone with ‘Mom Loses Her Shit,’ but it wasn’t my call to make.

I worked with Katie again; she’s the one who produced the other episode I ‘did’ for Parent’s Ask. Both times I’ve sent her a mishmash of video. Hours and hours of footage of my feet mixed in with shaky shots of… Continue

One man’s trash is another man’s new crap

These genuine, mass-produced, machine-cut glasses, with visible seams, can be yours to purchase at our upcoming rummage sale. When potential buyers inquire about these glasses...“Are they real crystal?”... “Are they hand cut?”... “Will they make my butt look smaller?”...I will tell them that I don’t know anything about the glasses other than their matching gravy boat is on the…

I wrote this post so that you could feel better about your life [YOU'RE WELCOME]

I wasn’t entirely sure whether or not to write this post. But then I thought, you guys are adults. You understand that life isn’t just rainbows and squirrels covered in sparkles. I can give it to you straight. And if I’m wrong, well then, I guess a few of you will probably make a mini throw-up in your mouth.

Our weekend started out with projectile vomit. And then it got gross. And no, this will not run amok into a poop post, unless you count that incident with our cat making diarrhea… Continue

A snapshot of our weekend

It goes with the territory, but that doesn't mean the terrain is always smooth.

Whitney and Heidi spent this past weekend hunkered down in our bedroom. They ran fevers into the triple digits and dribbled grape popsicles onto our bedspread. ...Continue Reading…

The division of labor in our house

I'm wondering, what's it like in your house?

Heidi woke up sick this morning. She told us so. “I sick.” And then she projectile vomited and we were like: Oh, you mean you’re sick, sick.

Here’s something to consider if you’re single and looking for that special someone to raise a family with one day: If you’re not ‘O.K.’ with vomit, your special someone had better be. That’s because puke and kids go hand in hand. So the next… Continue

Back in my day we choked on those seeds, and we LIKED IT!

My daughters are growing up in an age of text messaging and seedless watermelons. I worry they’ll be too soft; won’t be ready for what the real world’s going to hand them. And then, look, seeds in the ‘seedless’ watermelon! That’s right girls, sometimes life throws you curve balls!

Speaking of balls. ...Continue… Continue

Stupid Dutch [alternate title: I live with my dad and his funicular...obviously the universe hates me]

I realize Memorial Day weekend is actually the ‘official start’ of summer, however it doesn’t really feel like summer, to me, until the Fourth of July. Maybe it’s the unpredictability of our Wisconsin seasons; one Memorial Day weekend will find me hosing off patio furniture and another may find me shoveling off the drive-way. It isn’t until the Fourth of July that we Wisconsinites are…

Shut-up! I am too a good mom!

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a big fan of bath time. I know some parents enjoy bath time, and I suppose they also like getting their sleeves wet up to their elbows and wrestling with slippery toddlers. Bath time reminds me of drinking margaritas...it starts out nice enough but someone always ends up crying. ...Continue… Continue

Bumping Elbows with Gwen Stefani at American Girl Place

Ben had a conference in Chicago this past weekend. The conference ran both days, so we all drove down with him on Sunday so that the girls and I could spend the day shopping [and going to the public restroom every half-hour]. Whereas Ben spent the day sitting in a lecture hall taking notes on building Drupal modules for six hours. Sounds sexy doesn’t it?

On our list of ‘Places to Fritter Away Our Money’ was the American Girl Place… Continue
