Emotions, Stuffs, and Word Vomit

My emotional explosion yesterday can be attributed to a couple of things. My friend Julia brought to my attention that weaning could have a lot to do with my inability to control my emotions. While, I’m not all about putting blame onto something, I can pinpoint that the end of breast-feeding was the start of a lot of self-talk that amounted to me feeling badly about myself. I had a grand plan that I would be the one ending our breast-feeding relationship, but Kinsey just one day pushed…

Where I Think I Locked My Keys in the Car...

I went to bed last night feeling like I had a hive on the underneath of my lip…the inside of my lip I suppose, but not completely inside the mouth, just like, well, the underside. Anyway, I woke up at 2am and my top lip was swollen up like Angelina Jolie. Toddler Foodie

Kinsey girl is 10 months old now (wowzers!), and I have come a long way in the foodie department since I last talked about it here. We went with a hybrid version of Baby Led Weaning, because I am a total nutcase every time Kinsey gags or makes choking noises. The theory makes sense. Teach your kid to chew before teaching them to swallow…I support it, but I also wanted solid foods to be an opportunity…

Children's Songs I Do Not Understand

I did not think through my song choices very well with Kinsey, and as a result, I am stuck singing “Day-O” about 3x per day on average. I introduced a David Crowder Song at bedtime, and that one works only at bedtime. Then, a couple weeks ago, Bryant and I started singing “Down by the Bay” in the car as we were driving across town, and our multi-part “repeat after me” rendition seemed to work quite nicely. However, now there are only two songs that will postpone a carseat freakout, and both…

Mama Reflection

Last week was one of those weeks that I think was tagged in our timeline of unforgettable weeks. Sometimes, you have a ‘hard’ week, and then there are the weeks that are more than hard. I am learning <the hard way> that you can’t control anything. As much as I’d like to have things handled, I have to accept that things can easily fall out of their rhythm. As a new mom, I think that you are always waiting for things to get better. I self talk a lot. I say “You just have to get through…

Building Boundaries – Building a "Swimming Pool"

As mentioned, positive parental authority is built on values such as: personal example, good communication, seeing the goals of others, seeing others, tolerance and mutual respect, each according to his own set of values. Values are part of a framework of defined and given boundaries. In order for you to…
