GAPS Diet, It has helped the boys

I found out about GAPS via a mom at the OT office . Two year a go, there wasn't much about this, but sense then, it seems to have blossomed. I just wanted to share two great site that has helped my kids. I wasn't that stick. We already ate bone broths, and I already cooked everything homemade. I did have to switch to making GF breads vs other breads that I made. I did have to switch noodles.  Also, I took a year to make the switch. My kids were so finicky about foods, that I couldn't change…

Methylation, Glutathione, and Vitamin B12 by Dr. Jerry Kartzinel

Another very interesting read regarding methylation, glutathione and Vit. B12.  According to Dr. Kartzinel, there is a link between the lack of consumption or production of these vitamins and a family history of schizophrenia, alcoholism, bi-polar disease, depression, attention deficit disorder, constipation, and autism. This makes me wonder about…

A day well spent at the Autism Summit

Today was a success! We had a plan this year. Last year we stuck around about an hour too long. This year, we brought separate cars and as soon as Ian & boys couldn’t take the noise anymore, they hit the door running. Meltdowns successfully averted… (patting myself on the back now as we speak)

If you have yet to go  to one of these events, you are missing out. Ok, perhaps it’s not the end of the world, but some of the information you get is priceless. Not to mention the…

Why do I have to take B-12 shots, Mom?

B12 has been amazing for both boys. Every day Zeke is communicating better, and now has wonderful intense eye contact. Admittedly I was like “WTF?!” He looked a little possessed to me, mostly because I was so used him looking at me out the corner of his eyes. Gabe has been focusing on his school work better and is seeking less.  Which is so very awesome because he is always in seeking mode. All very wonderful things for the boys. The first day, was a bit sad.

Gabe asked “Why do…

Do you see the Halloween Fairy? If not, you should

Do you see the Halloween Fairy? If not, you should. Thanks to my wonderfully clever husband, the Halloween fairy comes to our home The boys pick out 10 pieces of candy, then they leave it out on the table for her. She then slips into the house, takes their candy and leaves $5 in it’s place. She is much like the Tooth Fairy. But then again, we tend to explain and blame everything on the fairies. Poor fairies, they get a bad rap sometimes around here.

Shhhhhh.. don’t tell my kids…

FYI chocolate covered coffee beans = kids who wont go to sleep

Thanks friendly neighbor for giving my ADHD, ASD, OCD boys chocolate covered coffee beans… either they are for me, then AWESOME! I love you!  Or you can’t read Spanish, in which case you are an idiot for buying candy and you don’t know what it is. Or you’re  just an asshole and you thought it would be funny to give coffee beans to children. I am HOPING that these were intended for me and  that you’re not an idiotic asshole who buys things in gourmet aisle just to say you bought your neighbor…

Another trip to the ER goes badly…Thank God for DAN Doctors

Monday, was such a long day. We did our normal, all day therapy. We visited some friends, when Gabe said his stomach hurt. I asked if he had to go “Caca.” Of course he said No, and I proceeded to make him to at least sit on the toilet. I get him to go, he comes out saying he feels better, and goes back to playing. About 30mins later. He come out and says. “Mommy, I don’t feel soo good, my tummy hurts.” I look at him, and all color has gone from his face.

We left quickly. I was…

Nauticaus w/ Lighting Bolt Man & Inspector Gadget aka my boys

The Naticaus, based out of Norfolk, Va.They retired the USS Wisconsin, and turned her into a 3story museum. Ranging from Ocean life, History of Jamestown to Naval History. We had such a wonderful time at the Nauticaus, in semi costume at that. Gabe so wanted to where his Liberty Spikes, but unfortunately, I was out of hair spray, so he had to settle for making a costume instead.  He is such a character. I swear, he…

Little Helper Boys Feed a Homeless Man.

I could not be prouder of my boys, than I am today. They made me teary eyed. I was shocked by their response, and need to help this man. We had driven by a Taco Bell, where a young man sat on a corner.

Gabe yells at me. “Mom, aren’t you going to stop and give him a bottle of water?”

“Sure, love, let’s get our order first, and on our way out, we’ll give him that bottle of water.” I replied.

I pull in, I order only 2 meals, for 4 people, I am broke even though its payday.…

Loose the “S” word during Summer, have fun..do as homeschoolers do

I have been coming across blogs here and there about the stress of having their children home for the summer months. And I can’t help but wonder why. Summer is such a wonderful time of the year. There is so much to do. Homeschooling changes your view on things.

Star Wars Waldorf Homeschool-May the force be with you

Last year we were un-schooling. We moved from public school to homeschool. Now we are going to Waldorf. I am thinking about going a Star Wars route for technology based sciences. We spend a lot of time at the Air & Space Museum Aquarium, the Nauticus. And they are in LOVE with Star Wars. I think it would be so much fun. Just thinking about all the possibilities.  Plus taking them to Neckocon this year, Balticon would be freaking fantastic.

Hashimoto’s & Me

I have been dealing with this for at least 8 years or more, maybe 20. And I don’t even know where to start in regards to my feelings. It is a mix emotions or horror, self pity, self doubt, even hatred, loads of anger, yet a clear understanding of myself.  I never lacked motivation, drive, or desire. But I have always lacked stamina.  I will get this urgency to say rearrange the whole house in a day, but I am exhausted for a month. Holidays are the same way for me.  And I am not talking just…

Thifty Lil’ Homeschool/Therapy Room

I have been working hard to get myself organized. So far, I’ve gotten the kitchen(mostly done), the living room done, and our lil’ homeschool/therapy room. Actually the boys spend most of their day in here. We do all their therapy in this room, ALL their Legos, and of course our schooling.

Homeschooling can be very expense & so is Autism, diabetes, pacemaker, & hypothyroidism. Mix it all up, and we are constantly broke. We are constantly thinking out the box, and looking to…

New theme ideas designed by me of course…

I have a horrendous migraine today. You know the type… if you move you vomit, the house has to be pitch black, god for bid the boys make a noise. I thought about getting my head amputated, and getting it replaced with a tin-head, like the tin-man did in the Wizard of Oz. While, not very practical, I thought I better make use of my down time in the bed. I worked on a logo & a new layout. Actually I am quite proud of myself… I love being so creative… I just wished I had more time for…

Awkward Aspie Moments @ McDs

Oh… boy this one both embarrassed me and made me mad.

We were at McD’s about 7mos back, right before we got on our GF kick. And the boys were being their loud, but happy selves, when a worker started sweeping under their feet. A little annoyed because they were eating, and that kinda of distraction, well makes them stop eating.

This young man had no hands, but had 1 thumb on each numb. I know that sounds cruel, but it’t the truth. And I he was…

From one Aspie son to his Aspie father....

Ok, most of you know my hubby has Aspergers too. I try to avoid writing too much about him. Not because I don’t care, it’s just well I spend most of my days being a mom. I really should, Ian is amazingly brilliant and oh so funny. I love it.

Last night, he was having a man-trum… well maybe not quiet a man-trum… but he was complaining.  I was just looking at him and eating my dinner. Thinking to myself, “yeh well they need to learn to wipes the butts better, or lift the seat up, and…

Aspergers Homeschooling Anxiety

Homeschooling Anxiety can be a pretty stressful self-imposed annoyance. But we all get it at sometime or another.  It could be just making a decision whether or not you should homeschool, the abundance of different curriculums,  or trying to find out what works best for your children. The list can seem never ending.

While I love what I am doing, and I know it is the right thing for my boys. I still am riddled with doubt.  I find myself straddling between two separate worlds in a lot…

Organic Gardening with Poly Hobby Mommy

I started my garden about a month ago. I am now just updating. It’s been keeping pretty tired at the end of the day.  But, I’m getting a killer tan. All my hard work is starting to pay off.  Everything is coming up so large and beautiful.

We planted: tomatoes, jalapenos, bell pepper, cucumber, yellow squash, butter nut squash, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkin, cabbage, broccoli, bok choi, lettuce, cilantro, basil, rosemary,  and chives.

The boys started plants in…
