I was approached by the makers of Karito Kids dolls, KidsGive LLC, to review two of their “Word Collection” dolls. The word “Karito” means “charity” and “love of one’s neighbor” in Esperanto. Karito Kids highlights the beauty of each ethnic group and depicts modern-day life in each country and culture, showing children the similarities shared by kids around the world.
Every one of these tall, beautifully crafted dolls comes with the… Continue

My niece invited all the Bleasdale women to New Hampshire to celebrate her bridal shower, and I was exited to go. L is 2 ½ now and I have never been away from him for a night. We practice attachment parenting and co-sleeping, meaning he sleeps next to me. So going to the shower meant that Don had to take care of L by himself for two days, including one night. I am the only one who can get our sweet little boy to sleep, by bouncing with him on an exercise ball or nursing him, so this was going… Continue

Today, I found myself pondering again what I have thought about a few times since Landon was born: do I want another child? Landon was only months old when family and friends started to ask about the second child, and a lot of my mom friends seem to be having the second child now or are pregnant or working towards it. Not us. Thankfully, I don’t have a huge urge to have another one, although I loved being pregnant and had such a wonderful… Continue

I promised you the story and the pictures of opening the packaging of a new toy for Landon. Don bought him this noisy backhoe that came in the most ridiculous packaging I have ever seen. It was tied down by tiny screws, of all things, and it took us 10 minutes to open it! We were fuming and poor Landon had to be so patient. After we finally got it open, I took care of the noise by taking out the batteries right away, there was no way I was going… Continue

Some medicines, certain diseases, travel, and stress can cause an upset of the balance of microorganisms in our body. Florastor Kids is a probiotic that can protect your child’s intestines from “bad” organisms.
Florastor Kids is a clinically tested, natural, yeast-based probiotic that aids in the growth of good microorganisms in the intestines. It helps maintain or restore optimal intestinal health and promotes healthy bowel function.… Continue

What a great day! (Except for the black ant invasion that greeted me this morning in the kitchen, ugh… Do you think 8 traps will do the trick, fast?) I got so much done, it’s beautiful outside, I had a massage . . .
I made a phone call, finally ordered some new contact lenses, and paid some bills this morning, so I got that out of the way. After playing with the babysitter for two hours, Landon took an extended nap (with the help of more… Continue

I received a blog award today! It’s from Deborah, and her blog’s name is BabasFarmLife. I picked it up and am very proud and honored to receive the “One Lovely Blog Award.”
I will pass it on to a few blogs I recently discovered that I think deserve a great following. Here is what you do when you get it:
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.
2) Pass the award to up to 15 other… Continue

I am breastfeeding a 2 ½-year-old toddler, and I have no problem doing it in public. In fact, I am so proud and glad that I am still breastfeeding that I have a breastfeeding counter on the bottom of my blog page! You would expect strangers to give me looks, but I actually have to justify my choice to friends and family more and more lately.
Why do I still breastfeed? Because Landon still wants to and asks for it, I love the bond we have through it and the convenience — and most… Continue

Okay, I am getting fat. This is going in the wrong direction — summer is upon us! Aaah! My weight is okay, but I am just so out of shape! I am wearing the same four pants over and over again because I refuse to break out the box with the size 8 jeans, yet I just can’t bring myself to work out. I have no interest. What happened? I was the spinning queen before I had Landon; I even went spinning with him in my belly until I got so big that I was hitting it/him with my knees (I figured that was a… Continue

I had the pleasure to review a new self-help book written by Suzy Welch, 10-10-10 — A Life-Transforming Idea.
This book is all about helping you make decisions in life — the small ones and the really large ones. By asking yourself three questions — “What are the consequences of each of my options in 10 minutes, in 10 months, and in 10 years?” — Suzy Welch believes you can make much better choices in your life.
I have always been someone who figures out decisions by herself,… Continue

Since I want to reach as many readers as possible, I am always glad when I find something free that I can use to promote my blog. When I learned about Entrecard a couple of months ago, I was exited to join. As everyone in the blog word knows, they recently changed their format and are now featuring paid ads, which will be displayed on your blog if you approve them. A lot of mom blog writers I follow are really upset about these changes and are stopping to participate. Maybe they have been with… Continue

I have no clue how to potty train Landon, I have never really “trained” him—he is learning all by himself, on his own terms! When he was about 2 years old, I went to Toys-R-Us with him and bought him a potty. I had done extensive research on Target.com and read a lot of reviews before I bought the Graco Soft Seat Potty Chair, which is great (see picture above). I made a big deal about it and explained to him what it was for, that he is a big boy now and that he has his own potty. At home, we… Continue

Today was a great day, and even better — a frugal day. We got up after 9 a.m. (somehow Landon seems to know that it’s the weekend, during the week he gets up around 7:30 a.m. I needed that sleep, I had been up until 2 a.m. again blogging!) and ate a healthy breakfast. I made oatmeal because Landon asked for it (ot meow). I spend a little time on my computer marketing my blog (Twitter and Facebook updates, an e-mail to my friends) and got ready to head out. I wanted to check out the rummage sale… Continue

Taxes, ugh… I just spend another evening compiling the necessary information for our accountant. Yes, we still haven’t sent him what he needs. I have been meaning to give him a call for weeks now, to at least let him know that we intend to use him again this year! But I have been so crazy busy with work (and blogging!), I was pretty sick for two weeks, and here we are, three weeks before the deadline. Wasn’t it just Christmas a little while ago? How does this happen every year? I am such an… Continue

What makes you feel grateful for everything you have in your life? For me it is hearing the wind howl in the trees outside. I’ll explain…
Last night, I crawled into bed at 1 a.m. after finishing an editing project, and as I sighed and got all cozy and warm next to Landon, I heard the wind howl outside. There is something about that noise that instantly makes me appreciate that I have a roof over my head. Sure, most people do, but it’s not just about having a roof over my head. It… Continue

A few days ago I received an alarming e-mail from a friend about another mom’s little daughter who got very sick and was hospitalized after ingesting hand sanitizer. This is not the first time I have heard about this, and I want to urge everyone, parents and grandparents, to be very careful with these products or not to used them anymore at all!
This little girl, four years old, was very lethargic and incoherent in school, and when they got her to the hospital, she had an alcohol… Continue

I want to share some tips with you on how I save money—and who doesn’t want to these days—while being kind to our environment.
1. Save cardboard, address stickers, and toilet rolls for art and craft projects
Growing up in Germany, I remember that my mother always collected little boxes and toilet rolls and would drop them off at our kindergarten when she had saved up a whole bag. We would use those materials for art and craft projects. Do people do that here as well?… Continue

Things are kind of crazy around here. Don is sick with aches and a cough and a headache, so I am trying to get him better, emphasis on trying
because he doesn’t want to take anything. Why do men have to be so difficult when they have a cold? Take two Advil and some cough medicine already instead of groaning so much! I think he’ll live…
And then I got a message today that the deadline for my latest proofreading project—the most tedious one I have worked on in a long time—got… Continue

Am I the only one who doesn’t want 300 “friends” on Facebook? Am I the only one with a cell phone that doesn’t have a camera? Am I the only one with no interest in texting? The latest and greatest for a lot of other moms I know is being on Facebook, everyone declares to be addicted to it—I have to admit, I don’t get it.
I finally decided to sign up with Facebook and Twitter about two weeks ago, since I understand that as a blogger you “have” to be on them, it is one way how people… Continue
