Yesterday when news of Robin Williams' death popped up in my feed I felt an incredible emptiness in my core. Despite the fact that I usually hold this kind of sadness for those closest to me, those I knew in real life, there's a deep anguish that feels like a web of energy amplified by the mere existance of 'movies' and 'internet,' of places like 'facebook' where each of my friends and acquiantences is sharing the moment to acknowledge the loss and power of one amazing individual. One person…Continue

After I posted 50 Facts, a friend mentioned to me that she didn't know if she could write one herself. And it got me thinking in tangents about things I thought about writing here a while back when I had little time to blog but plenty of inner-chatter to chat out, if you know what I mean.
I explained to her that truthfully, that list of 50 took me a few years to complete. A little idea jumping out here and there on occasion, and…

A few months ago I was reading blogs and darn it...I ended up on Ebay. That ever happen to you? Yes, here's the post that inspired such fun. Maybe I was just bored. Tired of the monotony of cleaning. Or thinking buying skates would be easier than dying my hair (never done that one still). But I ended up browsing skates and buying some that day.
And cha-ching, a week later my purple-white skates arrived all…

I stumbled across this recipe months ago. But it wasn't until a month ago that I finally made it. You see, when I come across a delicious looking recipe involving chocolate I can't help but read on. 'Tis my lot in life to be a *sigh* chocolate lover.
And this recipe is awesome. And I mean that in more than one way.
1. No sugar in it.
2. No dairy in it.
3. No wheat in it.
4. No cooking.
5. Absolutely awesome flavor, texture and it even presents…

Last week I called the instructor at the local Ropes Course. We were set to attend with our homeschool group in a few days, and I realized that although it may be interesting to watch the older kids climb, zip and whirl, it'd be more fun if my two oldest could participate fully.
The answer I got: The harnesses can be fit on very young children. It's more about their personal will and interest.
So, we woke early a few days later, tossed our picnic in the car, and drove as…

As summer finally begins to make itself known around here (I know, everyone else is experiencing record highs, right?), last week I found myself feeling outsmarted again by our stuff.
"OK, everyone outside."
"Wait, where's your hat?"
"Do you have sunblock on yet?"
"I don't know. Where IS the sunblock?"
"Who used the sunblock last?!"
I've said it a million times. But here it goes again. My job description oftentimes feels like it must read: 50% SAHM duties /…

I've been telling my husband lately that my life is a lot like Groundhog's Day.
Monotonous. Yes. But I'm actually the one choosing to shape it that way, since it keeps everything flowing smoothly and sanely here.
My personal Groundhog's Day is complete with:
* Anticipating hunger by pre-preparing snacks.
* Thinking of meals in as far advance as I can stand, so I don't end up in a hot…

Argh! YOU DID WHAT?!
Yes. That's me on many an afternoon. Make that morning. OK, truth-be-told, it can happen at any moment. Today it was the crayon-covered rocker that did me in.
And despite the fact that children are not the behaviors they exhibit, I honestly have difficulty sorting the two when my impatient Aries-anger ignites.
Whew. Deep breath. Calm down. Re-focus. Now move forward.
Yes, having children who are ages 1, 3 and 5 can be challenging. But…

Cheers! Summer is officially here. And based on the weather here, summer didn't want anyone to forget it.
It was H-O-T all week.
After weeks of back and forth warm-and-then-cold-rainy-days, summer is here full throttle. And I'm excited that our tall, seeding grass will die back soon, so I can perhaps breathe clearly again. Sniff sniff.

We all go through phases with our children's diets. (Heck, I go through phases in my own diet as my tastes change throughout the month. So what can I expect?) But kids are notorious for being "picky," "difficult" and "plain."
And truth be told, my kids have thus far been truly amazing little eaters. My first has very openly tasted foods most of her life, leaning towards a less-interested stage when she hit four years of age, but nonetheless, discovering for herself what she truly…

Yes, like parseltongue (from Mr. H. Potter). My oldest and I seem to be gifted with parsel ped. Infliction or gift of the foot, otherwise known as the ability to tread so lightly that you almost step on snakes (and sometimes lizards) during the heat of snake season. Which is definitely upon us now.…

Seven years ago someone mentioned 'weblogs' and I winced. Why would someone want to go and put their journaling thoughts online for all to see? Good god, what madness is taking over society? We left for Peace Corps in 2000 and returned to the rubbed-and-well-worn jeans look. Cell phones for everyone...and everywhere. And now, diluting of the web with weblogs?!
And then just five years later we welcomed our first child. We were living in the Bay Area and our family lived just far…

Today we rose to a sun that was trying it's darndest to burn through the mist that shrouds the redwoods. It'd peek through momentarily, lighting up the whole living room, and within minutes hide again beyond the mist.
Finally at ten o'clock the…

While writing "All Alone" earlier this week, my fingers actually kept tap-tap-tapping away. And I looked up, and the sun had not only set, it was pitch dark outside. And a whole story had poured out. The post was so long I had to chop it in half, wrap up my thoughts and finish it in this post.
These past few months I've been thinking a lot about what "loneliness" and "being alone" are. 'Tis typical for me every…

It's storming outside tonight. Again.
I'm craving sunshine. Yes. This rain-loving, born-in-San-Diegan wants warmth from the sun and natural, bright light.
But, it is still May. One more day anyhow. And another shower can't be bad for the rainforest that surrounds us here. So, I'll just write about last night. When it wasn't raining. When it was surprisingly cold out and the sun was setting beyond the forest's edge.

I just stumbled across a link to the destined-to-be-viral Grand Rapids LipDub of Don McLean's American Pie.(An article about why 3,000+ people came out to make this video, here.)
Anyhow, I'm not moved to watch YouTube videos and clips…
