My love affair with all things miniature began when I was 10 and spent the summer with my Aunt and Uncle.
The little girl across the street had the most amazing miniature dollhouse. I had never seen unlike it before, and haven't seen anything like it since. Crafted by her grandfather and completely lit and furnished, we played with it for hours on end.
I've always dreamed of having my own miniature dollhouse and a few years ago my husband surprised me with a beautiful Cape-Cod…Continue

"Hi. My name is Elayne and I'm an addict"... Isn't that what people say at 12 step meetings? Well, I think I need to find one as I have discovered the wonderful, time-eating, totally addictive world of Pinterest.
No longer do I have time to scrap or stamp or create or cook or eat or watch TV or clean or do laundry or even worry about what my 3 kids (all grown) might be up too. No time to suffer through empty nest syndrome (daughter just moved…Continue

I would assume that I'm not the first mommy on earth that realizes how difficult it's going to be to let her children go.
And I'm sure I'm not the only mom that begins to prepare for the inevitable empty nest and all of the things that we hear it will bring.
For me, my children moving out, and my home becoming an "empty nest” represents yet another loss in my life. I've had lots and lots of loses, so trying to prepare myself ahead of time is now just what I…Continue
Today is my 13th Wedding Anniversary! I can't believe how fast the years have flown by. Look at my little babies!
My husband is an amazing dad. He didn't have kids when he married me but he stepped up and did an incredible job parenting our children.
I'm sure there's been times over the past 13 years when he asked him self "what the hell did I get myself into"?
Now that our kids are…Continue

If you're anything like me, making sympathy cards is not at the top of your list of favorite things to do.
When someone loses a loved one or a pet, one of the ways we let them know that we’re thinking about them is by sending them a sympathy card.
I have a little ritual I began when I started hand-making my own sympathy cards. I turn on some music…Continue

This past Sunday I told my oldest child that I was thinking about going to church. I don’t go often. She asked me in a very serious voice to be sure to pray for her sister. I was surprised by this and jokingly asked her if she wanted me to pray for her sisters soul. She said “Yeah mommy”. I asked her why and she told me that when the girls attended a memorial…Continue

Okay ladies, I admit it, I have a secret. Before I share it with you, I'm going to ask that you indulge me for a few minutes and not read ahead. Deal? Thanks!
Without being too critical of the poor photo quality, what do you think of the table and the floral arrangement? Personally, I like the simplicity of it. Just a bowl of flowers on a small table, catching the light as it comes into the room. I like the room too. I like the way the drapes are pulled…

When I was a little girl in elementary school, one of the things I always looked forward to was the school Book Fair. A week or so before the big day, our teacher would give us a colorful, newsprint-newsletter, that was filled with pictures of the wonderful books you could buy and a short description of each.
I loved going home, having my snack, and then sitting on the couch and reading about the books. I've always loved to read and I remember how hard it was to narrow…

Last week I met my sister in Illinois to visit our Aunt and Uncle. While we were growing up, they lived way out in the country, in the middle of acres and acres of corn fields, in a beautiful white farm house. One of my favorite places was the old barn. Even though it was scary at night, I still remember the smell of the hay, gasoline and fresh soil.…

Last found hanging in his backyard by his sister. He was only 14 years old and had just started high school. He left behind a family, friends and people that cared. He also left behind a bunch of kids that spent a great deal of time doing everything they could to make him miserable. They bullied him, taunted him, brought him to tears and eventually, drove him to…Continue

I think that one of the saddest things about Alzheimer's disease is the fact that it often robs children of their grandma or grandpa. Children are very astute. They know that grandma or grandpa is there "physically", but they can usually sense that they are not fully "present".
Little ones might be frightened. Tweens might get very quiet, and teens? They might just get angry. So how…
