Your Role as 'Keeper of the Home'

About a month ago I attended a wonderful gathering with a handful of women who were interested in gaining a biblical perspective on our role in our homes. We were introduced to an amazing book by Devi Titus,…

A Little Black Kitty and A Lot of Tears

raintree1 This week has been a little foggy for me. As some know, we had some bad news over the weekend and found out our dear little kitty, Ebby had kidney failure. It was terrible; I had seen changed behavior in her, a little lost weight and symptoms that reminded me of when she had a "kitty cold". But at the vet office we found out she was in very bad shape and there was really nothing the vet or we could… Continue

Are You a Bad Mom When You Allow Your Kids to Struggle?

child_thinking.141200543 Isn’t our goal as parents to help develop problem solving skills in our children? I think as busy moms, we often forget and take the easy road and solve problems for our kids. By repeating this habit of giving answers to our children instead of allowing them the opportunity to figure something out on their own we are really creating MORE dependent children rather than creating… Continue

One Big Turkey, Eight Guests and a Busy Mom Equals.....

MrTurkey-icon It is nice when the seasons change and your mind begins to be focused on things other than back to school or Halloween costumes. I enjoy when the calendar flips and the days countdown to Thanksgiving Day. For me, I have mixed feelings about Thanksgiving, I have spent many holidays in bare, cold hotel rooms alone and missing my family. That part really stunk, but that was the breaks with a job that didn’t care that… Continue

The Homework Battle Goes on.....or Does It??

iStock_000003891502XSmall It is the time of year when that dreaded word "HOMEWORK" becomes a daily battle with parents - or does it? Depending on the age of your children it can cause a lot of problems, drama and opportunities for your child to engage you in power struggles. Truthfully, a lot of how your child reacts comes directly from how you approach the subject and how "little" you participate. Yep, you… Continue

Letting the Chips Fall Just Might Surprise You!

iStock_000004077514XSmall I have a story to share with you from a mom who I coached nearly 9 months ago. She sent me a message on Facebook the other day and told me her dilemma..... her son left that morning for school and ended up forgetting his soccer cleats for the big game after school. Now for some moms, this means dropping whatever you have going and running to bring your child the forgotten item in… Continue

Are You Treating Your Kids Like They Are Stupid?

It has been an interesting few days at our house since I picked up the book by Dr. Kevin Leman, “Have a New Kid by Friday.” Now I really truly HATE the title – I think it is rather misleading, but in any event I agree with nearly everything in it. It goes along the same lines as the… Continue

Coupons that don't save a dime.....but really add up!

As the school year is underway and our schedules are HEAPING with more than the year before – how do you make time for what is important? Determining what is important will be different for everyone, but I can almost guarantee that when we stop for a minute and truly think about what is important, it won’t be getting to the grocery store (unless your frig is completely bare!) cleaning the bathroom or watching Dr. Phil. I bet spending time with family… Continue

Empty threats and broken promises......are they the same?

From “Screamfree Parenting” by Hal Runkel

Never promise more than you can perform. “

— Publilius Syrus

Simple, right? If you promise little Timmy kid Disneyworld, you take him to Disneyworld. He sees that you can be trusted and all is well. The trick is to have this attitude in ALL promises, not just the pleasant ones.

Remember, empty threats are really broken promises. And just because they aren’t as fun to… Continue

Seven Ways to Get your Kids to Talk to you – For the Fun of it!

Another quick post compliments of Jen Singer, “14 Hours ‘Til Bedtime” author. This one gave me another good laugh, so wanted to pass it along to you. She says:

Recently I read a pamphlet entitled, “How to Get Your Teenager to Talk to You.” I don’t know how to get teenagers to talk to you, but I certainly know how to get kids between ages two and six to talk to you:

1) Make a phone call, preferably long distance.

2) Step into… Continue
