Kid Friendly Boudin's - a seak peek!

At what age can a child hold up to an entire day of shopping? Well, if you ask my daughter, her answer would be "four!". My friend Devi and I had planned to drive down to San Francisco for our annual shopping trip but my babysitting fell through for the day, but that didn't stop us. We were motivated mamas! We altered our plans to instead head down to Corte Madera "The Village" instead. That way if Paige decided to call it quits…

Is Milk Your Best Source of Calcium? Is your child getting enough?

Since 1980, milk consumption in this country has dropped by more than 22 percent.

What happened? When did we stop needing milk?

Many American households still don’t drink the amount of milk they probably should and have largely replaced the milk in their diets with sodas, energy drinks, bottled teas, juice and bottled water.

Why is milk important you might ask?.................read more at......…

The Emmy's and Temple Grandin

My first time ever hearing of Temple Grandin was last December or January of this year when I was sitting on the couch, watching an HBO movie and a preview to the 'Temple Grandin' made for HBO movie came on. I was mesmerized by this preview. It described how this woman who spoke her first words at nearly 4 years of age (she is now 62) was diagnosed with autism by her first doctor and her parents were told she'd never talk and would have to be institutionalized. So little was known about autism… Continue

Pig Scramble

As most of you know, the kids and I spent three entire, long days at our local country fair while Dominic was away on his Scotland trip. Saturday was Farmer's Day where there were all kinds of activities to participate in such as team penning, wild cow milking, calf scramble, boot scramble, egg toss, etc. Bryce was able to participate in the…

The Heifer Barn behind the Lake & MORE Baby Barn Owls

Yet another work morning with Dominic, the kids and I drove across the street with him to the heifer barn out behind Stafford Lake. This is the barn on the other half of our ranch that sits across the street behind Stafford Lake. At this barn and pasture are the heifers, or big calves that are rotated out of the calf barn on the main part of the…

Picking Up Hay

Another work morning with Dominic. We are having SO much fun! My father-in-law just cut and baled, I don't know how many oat hay bales that are ready to be stacked and moved. We needed to pick up a truck load to stack for the Dry Cows (cows that are not milking and / or ready to give birth anytime). I drove the truck while Dominic and the two…

Brand New Baby Calf

We never know what we might find on any given day, going to work with Dominic. This morning, as we were feeding the Dry Cows (cows that are not milking at the moment) I happened to look over and spotted a Mama cow with some afterbirth discharging........ which can only mean there's a baby somewhere close by. This type of thing can be a normal happening for Dominic to find, but the kids and I are not usually around during the school…

Our biggest delivery of the Year

Just thought you might like a little look inside to what it's like living on a working dairy farm.....

As I was headed down our driveway the other day, just before cresting the hill to drive down the hill, I see a very large load traveling up in the opposite direction. I stop to wait (it's a one lane drive). The silage trucks are coming. This means silage delivery will begin the next morning. Approximately 1600 TONS of silage to be exact. It will take about 2 1/2 days or so for the… Continue
