Angelina Jolie Meets Mayim Bialik

It's impossible not to bump up against these articles on helicopter parents, hovering parents, attached by the boob parents, you get the idea.  It seems to have turned into it's own cottage industry with celebrities; some write books like Mayim Bialik (I don't know who that is but she seems to…

Celebrity intoxication and teenage inebriation

Whether it’s Randy Travis’ mug shots splashed across tabloids, news of Amanda Bynes hit-and-run after an earlier arrest for a DUI or community service handed to Miley Cyrus for drunk driving, there is a celebrity battle with substance abuse seemingly everyday.

Unfortunately teenagers look up to many of…

"Mommy is apparel a dirty word?"

We have all seen the endless American Apparel billboards, subway ads, bus stop posters, and magazine spreads for this company which primarily makes casual clothing targeted for the 18-25 age group, T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, underwear.

Keeping kids safe at crowded summer events

Summer is upon us, and the kids want to go everywhere, beaches, theme parks, baseball stadiums, museums, hikes, waterparks, the list goes on. Sometimes airports or subways are involved.

I My Son's Fedora--- featured story at More Mag... nice..

It was that time of year again, when kids go off to college. I was witnessing hysterical mothers all around me, crying at Starbucks, breaking down on the treadmill at my gym. I know that particular meltdown. It’s different from “I can’t pay the bills” or “We are about to lose our house” or “I can no longer fit into my fat pants!”

My son left last year. I was surprised and quietly proud of keeping it all together. I was more focused on the preparation of it all. I had seen the… Continue

Eat your Freakin Bananas!

On the hottest day of the summer thus far, with fires raging a few miles away, the sky is raining soot. Since we are nearing the end of the summer, and I have been in lock down with Thing One and Thing Two, while trying to work in my cave of privacy, it seems we are all at wits end. I have run out of tasks for them to do, they are sick of sweeping the floors, writing letters to Santa, and scrubbing the bath tub. So they have taken to fisticuffs. Though playful, someone always gets hurt. Not… Continue

On a mental health… Continue
