i got a job!

YAY! I'm officially a Working Mother.

You may have noticed (or not) that I havent been blogging as much lately. Perhaps you're relieved. Either way, I've been a little silent. That's because I've been doing some preliminary supply shopping. I'm not sure what to expect as far as supplies and because this month will be busy for me (number 1 son is going off to college), I like to prepare as early as…

feed your brain

I found this article in More magazine called “How to Feed Your Brain” which had some interesting tips that I thought I’d share. It seems like everyone is an expert on brain health and everyone has ideas on how to increase your memory. In my opinion, most of them don’t work. At least, for me. And that’s really all I care about, right? So without further delay (always wanted to say that) here how to feed…

i feel weird

So...I feel weird. Not bad and not sick but just weird. I've been taking my T4 (genric Synthroid) since Wednesday, I believe. I hadn't really noticed any symptoms. Or rather, I noticed symptoms but I didnt want to verbalize anything. yet. Even at my age, I have a fast metabolism and I figured I would start seeing signs of a difference this weekend. And I did. I think. Of course, they…

home again home again jiggity jig

so. home from vacation. been home for a few days actually. havent wanted to face it. are you noticing a trend with me? you see, despite all the hassles of getting there and back, i had a good time in Aruba. no no. a GREAT time! I spent ALOT of time lounging around under an umbrella or a palapa drinking fruity little libations, listening to my ipod, and reading. it was paradise. To be sure, there were some setbacks which i will be blogging about later, but for the purpose of this post, know…

time traveling

well...i'm a time traveler of sorts. the boy graduated and i had two feelings: #1 that it seemed like I just graduated a few years ago and #2 that i couldnt believe my baby boy was old enough to graduate. To be sure, i dont feel like i'm even old enough to have kids, but i'm sure many moms feel that way. you can imagine i experienced a host of emotions: fear, confusion, happiness, sadness, and pride. Because I have so many feelings running around through my body, i am unable to capture them…

graduation prep

If you’ve paid any attention to my recent ramblings you’ll know a) I'm crazy and b) I’m reluctantly getting ready for number one son’s high school graduation. When I’m tense, frustrated or angry, it often helps me if I clean, so the past few days have been full of cleaning! Actual party prep began back in the spring. Here is what I’ve done in the past few months in anticipation of this…

i cried

I cried today. A lot. My world crashed and fell apart in large pieces on me. I went to the endocrinologist (Dr. Endo). I had my hopes up. High. Prolly too high. I KNEW that finally FINALLY this doctor was going help me. I put too much hope in it. I knew that but I didn’t care. And…of course, it happened. The doctor said my TSH and all my other thyroid hormone levels were smack dab in the middle of normal.…

graduation fever

So number 1 son graduates this Friday. As you may know, I am having a hard time thinking that my little boy is old enough to graduate from high school. It was just yesterday that I brought him home from the hospital. Given this emotional turmoil I’m in, it’s been difficult to get excited and plan for the graduation events. But I’ve been doing it sporadically. He didn’t want a big party, and after I threw…

i'm losing it

I feel as if I’m losing control. My moods are unpredictable. Mostly I’m in a decent mood, even happy. But sometimes, for no good reason, I get irritated. This is not a new experience; I’ve been getting these mood swings since approx jan 08. Through my multiple misdiagnoses I’ve learned it could be caused by many things. But the reality is that regardless of what’s causing it, I feel like sometimes I’ve…

i'm an old fart

I don’t know who has inhabited my body. But it’s not me anymore. It can’t be. I’ve become an old fuddy duddy. An old fart. (fartess?) Why? Cuz there are types of music that I don’t care to listen to anymore. When I was younger (aw hell you know I’m old when I start a sentence like that) I liked most all kinds of music. Tolerated the ones I really didn’t…

looking up: a rehash

Well it’s hard to believe that its been a whole month! At times I thought this month would never end. Looking back, I can’t believe how quickly the month passed. My personal blog has had some interesting looking up topics. During this month I have blogged about: my hair (or lack of it), looking for an endocrinologist, vegetarian and vegan diets, running number one son around for two…

sex and the city

I love the ladies from SATC. I have been watching the show since its inception: it was a great excuse to buy the much coveted HBO. Anyway, I’ve followed the ladies through all of their trials and tribulations, cried, yelled at and talked to them. When the show ended I felt like my friends had left me. I was sad and lost. By that time I had lost all hope in TV. When SATC came back in reruns on TBS I…

feeling better

I am slowly feeling better. I started feeling sick Wednesday so four days is long enough for me to be sick. Not that I have any say in how long a cold stays in my system but you know what I mean. I’m done with it. I’ve pretty much laid low and stayed near the house except for the few “emergency” outings I needed to take. Meanwhile, during my resting periods I’ve been reading and looking things up on the Googles. I’ve read several of my new raw food books and I fear that I’m not quite as…

new friend and brain fog and gluten free

I am SO VERY excited to have a new friend and also a guest blogger today. Her name is Devan and she's over at Accustomed Chaos found here: http://www.accustomedchaos.com/. Her site is totally helpful if you wanna eat right or need some gluten free menu ideas! Devin understands, like i do, the importance of a healthy diet and brain function. Here she is, let's give her a big round of applause (who made up that saying anyway?)!

if you wanna get paid you need a tax id number

Most of you probably already know this, but for those rare few who, like me, didn’t know, here’s some information. Many bloggers out there want to make money. I know I do. I like to write so I thought I might be able to make a little change through writing. The problem is that now I want to get paid. Don’t we all? Yeah, really. There are many mom bloggers who will tell you not to work for free. So I get it. But how do you get paid by a reputable company? Well, you get a federal tax id…

raw food detox?

So I’ve been eating healthy for over a week. I hesitate to label what I’m doing for fear of messing it up but I will call it the semi vegan vegetarian raw food diet. There, that’s a nice name, isn’t it? What I’m doing is avoiding meat of all kinds: chicken, beef, lamb, fish, etc. I’m also TRYING to avoid refined sugar and diet sugars. I try to use Stevia, turbinado, agave,…

commonly misspelled words

If you’re like me, you’re crazy. Hahaha no but seriously. If you’re like me, you like words. I like words better than numbers which means that I can spell. Pretty well actually. SO much better than I can add or subtract or do any other math thing. To be sure, I occasionally make mistakes, but with my own writing I strive not too. The only time I don’t mind if I misspell words is if I am texting and on Facebook. Those of you who have received a text from me know what I am talking about: The…

my first love-books

Today we are looking at flea markets and books. I love books. Always have and probably will until I cant read or see or whatever anymore. One of the fun aspects of reading a book is scoring the sale. Yeah, sure, new books are great because they are new and don’t smell and no one else has ‘fingered’ the book. And I guess the Kindle and other e-readers are nice for those who like that sort of thing. I’m also a fan of audio books, especially in the car in traffic or on a long trip. But lately,…

crisis management

I’ve done fairly well this week with my vegetarian step down diet. Giving up meat really wasn’t that hard. at. All. Seriously. And I loves me some bacon. But I’ve done it (ok I had a teensy taste of almond crusted tilapia today made by the chef at the grocery store, but that shouldn’t count). I tried to carry healthy snacks when I could. When I couldn’t carry any around, I either didn’t eat anything at all (I’m totally used to being hungry) or I picked up something semi healthy while I was…
