A couple of weeks ago, Macmillan Kids send little Ricky a fun new book to read: Little Elliot, Big City. I really didn’t know much about it until we got it – and it’s actually really cute!
Little Elliot is a stuffed elephant living in the middle of New York City. He leads a quiet little life amid the hustle and bustle of the streets, where he feels too little…Continue

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. Thinking about how losing my sweet baby girl has affected our life. I’ve come to believe – or rather, know – that when you lose a child, you actually lose a lot more than that.
Obviously, the biggest and most hurtful piece of what we’ve been through is losing our baby. There’s no getting around that. If May wouldn’t have happened, we would have a week old baby at home right now. But May DID happen, and there’s nothing I can do to change…Continue

Some of you already know this – but I am a full time work from home mom. I do quite a bit of freelance writing and marketing consulting – and my baby boy gets to actually be home with me two days a week. It’s like the best of both worlds – and I love it.
For many reasons, a daily office environment just isn’t for me. I’m really efficient – and when you’re graded on billable hours, like many agencies are, this actually hurts my performance reports. I don’t do office politics – I…Continue

This past week has been an emotional roller coaster, for a lot of reasons. When my life is emotional, I like to do a lot of cardio. I don’t know why – it just works out that way.
When I feel like doing more of a particular exercise – circuits vs. lifting vs. cardio – I go with it. I figure that if my body feels like it’s not getting enough of a…Continue

If you read the blogging better series, you know that I am a H-U-G-E advocate of using social media to market your blog. I talk a lot about Facebook and Twitter, but it kind of begs the question: what about Instagram?
The truth about Instagram is that it is one of the fastest growing forms of…Continue

I don’t know about your kiddos, but my toddler loves to create art. Between all of the pieces he brings home from school and his amazing little weekend creations, sometimes I feel like we have toddler art coming out of our ears. But toddler artwork is adorable, so I really don’t mind.
Now, there’s only so many paintings that fit on our fridge – and on the walls of his playroom – before we run out of room. So we’ve had to learn to be selective when it comes to what we keep. I don’t…Continue

May wouldn’t have happened, I would be holding a just born baby girl in my arms right now.
My c-section was scheduled for 9:30 this morning. As of last night, it was still scheduled – the hospital called to confirm that I would be there by 7 am. Seriously.
Since we lost her, I’ve had this tendency to make the day before a big post-stillbirth milestone much more emotional than the actual day is. So…Continue

About two weeks ago, I shared with you guys our favorite toddler books right now. And boy oh boy, did you guys love that post! Your little ones must love reading as much as mine does.
And based on all of your feedback – and some of my baby’s favorite characters – I ordered him some more books. They’ve arrived. And they’re awesome. I’ve detailed them…Continue

I’m hosting a Life After Child Loss series to share some of the stories that you all have shared with me. Your stories. Stories to help inspire those who are in the midst of loss and are looking for hope. Personally, I know that a light at the end of the tunnel – even if it’s far away – has been so helpful for what we’ve been…Continue

For Christmas, my parents got us a GoPro camera. I’ve been meaning to use it a million times since then, but it took me a while to get all of the needed accessories and figure out how to actually use it. I’m guessing that the intent was for us to use it with the little guy. But for my first “real” video, I’m giving all of you mommies something a little different: a quick makeup tutorial. I get lots of messages from ya’ll saying you don’t have time for make up or that you don’t know how to…Continue
I’m just coming up on my two week marker on this whole “jumping back on the gym train” thing. And I’m still killing it.
I’m averaging about five to six workouts a week, which is pretty amazing – especially considering that a month ago I was happy with one halfway hard workout a week. I’m by no means at my fighting weight yet – I haven’t even gotten my regular pants to fit regular yet, but I do feel better. I can tell that my anemia is pretty much gone, because I have a lot more…Continue

When you first lose a baby, and are thrown into the child loss community, it’s a little overwhelming. The outreach, support, people who’ve been there…it’s just a lot to take in, especially because you’re not expecting to become overnight bosom buddies with people around the world. But that’s what happens – you join the club that no one ever wants to join, and it becomes a huge source of support – because everyone in that group knows what it feels like to walk over the hot coals of pain that…Continue

Some of you know this, some of you don’t – but I am so addicted to beauty products that I’m surprised they don’t come up more often around here. But here’s the thing with my obsession: I don’t want to try everything and everything. I want to use only the stuff that works, period, the end. I don’t like having a million bottles jammed up in my cabinet, I don’t want to remove seventy-six shampoos and scrubs and conditioners from my shower every time my kid takes a bath. Seriously: give me the…Continue

You hear me (see me?) writing fairly regularly about why guest blogging for other sites can have such a big impact on your own blog. Let me tell you some truth about this: I’ve always been open to guest blogging for other sites. But I’ve never been super into taking on guest bloggers for my own site, at least until recently. I think that it was just a “I don’t have time to deal with it” excuse that kept me from dipping my toes in the guest blogging waters. But now that I’m here, I’m…Continue

When folks see me out and about, with the five Minions in tow, they aren’t horribly surprised to discover I’m also ‘one of those weird homeschool people’.
I’ve been known to correct them. Yeah, I’m weird, but that existed long before our decision to homeschool.
I’d started considering homeschooling when my son, now nine, was a toddler. I knew, that unless aliens came down and fried his brain, he was the kind of kid teachers get medicated over.
Or, I’d be getting letters…Continue

Hello everyone! I am very happy to be a guest here at The Mommyhood Project, thank you Cortney for having me.
My name is Paulina. I’ve been married to my husband Bruce for 5 years during which we’ve experienced VERY high highs, VERY low lows and everything in between. I am happy to say that what we’ve gone through has only…Continue

This weekend marked three months since we lost our sweet baby girl. Three months that flew by in an instant, yet left me feeling about thirty years older. It’s like that old saying – the days pass slowly but the weeks go by so quickly.
Knowing that a week from Tuesday, she was supposed to be born. That’s when her c-section was scheduled for, you know. Tuesday August 19 at 9:30 AM. It’s the day that’s staring me in the face right now. Part of me feels like getting over that hump is…Continue

You guys. I have some exciting news to share. Well, at least it’s exciting to me. I have been to the gym five times in the last seven days. FIVE TIMES. That’s HUGE. Before this past week, I hadn’t been to the gym five times in the last year.
I know it’s only been a week, but doing hardcore workouts is making me feel like a new person. I have so much more energy, I feel better, I’m sleeping better. I’m even craving healthier foods, believe it or not. I hate to act like I’m…Continue
My son, Levi, has formed a new habit: waking up at 4:45 a.m.
That’s early. In my mind, anything before 5 a.m. is still night time. And night time is for sleeping. Not playing. Levi, on the other hand, has decided that 4:45 is the perfect time to begin his day.
He is wrong.
I have no problem getting up in the middle of the night to comfort my babies if they’re sick or teething or they pooped. I mean, I’m not exactly stoked about it when it happens, but if they have a…Continue
