Don't let U.S. lawmakers decide ignorantly who should be considered human! Let's join together and make some noise!!

H.R. 1797 - Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has recently passed the House of Representatives in a vote of 228-196. The bill moves to ban abortions after 20 weeks gestation except for in the event of minor incest, rape or a threat to the life of the mother. It has been said that there is no way that the bill will pass the senate.
I was extremely proud to read the statement by Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, when he stated, "These aren’t just fetuses, science now tells us that…

The Economy and Cheeseburgers.... Really?

I was listening to news radio in the car yesterday and heard a segment discussing the state of the economy. To my surprise, the data being collected in Georgia to determine the state of the economy in various cities measured how expensive that particular city is by looking at the price of a McDonald's double quarter pounder with cheese. Really?

Is our society so bent on the convenience of a ready-made, unhealthy meal that our economy is measured against it? The average price…

Wow, just wow..

In the past, people have slammed me for standing up for my pro-life views. It should be known that I do understand why some mothers may choose to have an abortion if they know that their child cannot survive outside the womb, or being pregnant places their lives in danger. That does not mean that I personally agree with it for the sake of just not wanting a baby, but that I do not judge others. That is between them and God.

Now, the issue of third trimester abortions has been hot…

Getting creative

So, I had a thought today that I might start collecting the recipes that I have created that we and the kids like, and put together a sort of cookbook type endeavor. I started getting experimental with food when I was pregnant because I had weird cravings, and I wanted to eat healthy. Now, I'm in an area where diverse, great food abounds, and we are eating things that normally would not be available. This is so inspiring to me, and I love being able to cook great food. We even have found…

Samples

So, I had heard great things about startsampling.com, so I decided to try it out for myself. In the past, I had poor luck with receiving samples that I had signed up for at other websites, but I must say, I am really impressed with my experience!

Not only did I receive large samples of haircare products sent specifically to my hair's needs, but I also received a surprise yesterday from Similac. I went to the mailbox, and found a box inside that was nearly too big to fit. When I…

Deliverance

Deliverance

Standing there in the midst of the chaos I felt all alone. Why? I had been here before, knew what was around me, but suddenly things changed. The feeling was almost overwhelming, as if everyone around me was suddenly clamoring for my attention, yelling in my face what they wanted me to hear, see and do. I wanted to scream, to run away or hide, but I was frozen. So there I stood. I closed my eyes tightly and screamed for the madness to stop. Shaking my head I dropped to my…

De-slumpifying

So things around here have been a bit on the crazy side lately (understatement of the century). My husband and I have been battling family illnesses and changes on all fronts. Now, we are facing some challenging circumstances which directly affect us, our future, and our kids... and we are having a difficult time figuring out how best to handle things.

I mentioned in my last post that I was feeling in a slump. I really was. Not being able to work out due to the weather, the…

Stir Crazy... But BLESSED!

Check out the latest post, and updated baby pictures!!

http://soapboxbyob.blogspot.com/

So, I've been in a slump for the past week or so. I think maybe the anti-anxiety meds and cold weather keeping me inside are working on my nerves and emotions. I've been feeling a bit down, and a bit fluffier than I would like because the cold, wet weather has not allowed me to continue with my running routine I had started a few weeks…

thoughts...

Pretty much my entire life I have felt as though I was living in the shadows of someone else's world. Never really knowing who I am, or where I wanted to go in life, I merely existed. Now that I am older, I find that I still need some direction, but am not finding it in the forms that I thought I would. Instead, my life is spiraling in such a way that I am forced to make difficult choices, regardless of what I truly want.

I have spent the better part of my life being fearful…

Spiritual GPS

Yesterday was a blessed day, and today I can honestly say that I feel more clear-headed than I have in a while. The primary reason for this is that I had a long-overdue prayer time with someone very special to my family. During this prayer, I was reminded of a concept that seems so far removed from mainstream Christianity (no offense intended to anyone).

Let us consider the concept of a Spiritual GPS. Physically we have Tom-Tom, Siri, Garmin and other names to help us stay…

Changing Holidays

When you are growing up, the holidays are like the most magical time of year. Then, as you get older and money, chaos, and stress are added to the equation, some of that magic is lost. For me, I love Christmas, because I have this wonderful idea in my mind of what it should be. So far, I've never seen any reality to that dream, but maybe one day.

For now, Christmas unfortunately comes and goes like any other day of the year, only with presents and more visits with family than…

Pre-Eclampsia, postpartum depression, grapefruit, and why I'm going mad...

So, let's start with the pre-eclampsia part. When I first found out that I was pregnant, I knew nothing about pre-e. During my pregnancy, I heard about it, but still didn't know what it was or that I should be taking note of certain symptoms. So, during week 29 when I started feeling gall bladder pains in my back and chest, I didn't know that it could have been caused by the pre-e that was taking over my body. I did have to have my gall bladder removed three weeks post-delivery. Yes, I look…

Post pregnancy clothes

I made a vow when I found out that I was pregnant that I would not allow myself to go ungroomed, frumpy or without my cute shoes. True to my vow, at 5 months pregnant, I wore my fantastic Carlos Santana black platforms to a funeral paired with a cute black suit. It was tasteful I assure you.

My husband and I have always bantered and had a great time together, and I did not want to allow the sparks to fly away while I was gaining weight and getting uncomfortable. Hence, after…

Unhappy baby and lots of pokes

Lily had her six month vaccines this week and has been unhappy about it. :) The little bugger is like her mommy in that she doesn't care for needles too much. There was all kinds of information that we had to read about the vaccines and what they do, what the possible side effects are, etc. Also, a warning that rejecting the vaccines could be dangerous. This is not the first time that the subject of vaccines has been raised in my community of moms and family members, but I decided to do a…

This week

So this week I am starting a new journey... back to the land of the living post baby drama. That's right, I'm planning on finding a job this week. I am confident that I will find one, and I am ready to get out there and rejoin society. Here's hoping that the right doors open where they need to!

At the same time, I also have to finish my Etsy account, post my items, and try to drum up some business. It might be slow at first, but I'm hoping that I can downsize some things, and…

Etsy Store

Okay, so in the midst of my daily insanity, I will also soon be opening an Etsy shop. I will be selling photography, handmade candle holders made from recycled materials, and handmade, customized aprons and tutus. I have not set up my sewing workspace yet, but will be doing that in the next couple of days.

I've noticed that I have a ton of creative energy stored up, and between working on my writing and taking care of this crazy family, I need an outlet. So, out comes the sewing…

Interesting Article on Seclusion and Restraint of Disabled Kids

I read an article recently on the effects of restraint and seclusion for children with disabilities. I found the article fascinating because I have read other, less scholarly articles on the topic. I have also written articles on the effects of seclusion and restraint in children with autism. Being a stepmom to an autistic child, the concern is very real. My husband and I use modified baby gates to limit access to certain areas of the house that could pose dangers, and use child proof…
