Hi all - I'd love your support in spreading the word about the Special Olympics World Summer Games June 25-July 4. Team USA is traveling to Greece this weekend and the Special Olympics is hoping to raise awareness with the #Athens2011 hashtag! There is an easy "Tweet Me" button in my post if you'd like to share it with you followers! Here's my post -…

Molly, my cute five-month old has an extra chromosome (aka Down syndrome) ..remember? If not, here's her story. Today was her first official day of physical therapy at Hope Haven Children's Clinic & Family Center. Yes, we've been working with them since she was born, but mostly at-home therapy. Today… Continue

Holiday decorations can be a tricky situation if you have little ones running around the house. Toddlers are so curious and excited (all the time) that it's important to keep them safe.
Last year, Maggie was just a little over a year old and loved getting herself into messes. I figured we would just not have a Christmas tree in order to keep her safe and my sanity… Continue

Why do I always find myself dreaming about taking a vacation? Oh yeah...maybe it's because I haven't been on one in forever! In no particular order, here are my favorite vacation spots! Where are your favorite places to go on vacations?

I'm still trying to get used to being labeled as a "mom of a child with special needs"
. (Here's our story.) I'd much rather just be known as a mom with two amazing girls - one just happens to have an extra chromosome. It always… Continue

It's Thanksgiving Week and I'm still trying to finalize the menu for Thursday's big meal. We are hosting family at our house this year and I want to make sure everything is perfect (and delicious)!
We always end up with way too much food, but it's hard to leave a dish out - they are all somebody's favorite! (Of course, mine is the… Continue

With Thanksgiving just a week away and all the online chatter lately about the best recipes for dressing and stuffing, I decided to jump in with my opinion. I may get disowned for sharing this family secret - but you deserve to know about it. My great aunt Ann lived in Alabama her entire life and was as Southern as they come. This is her recipe and I can't have Thanksgiving without it.…

Growing up, my dad didn't like for us to use the word "hate" he said it was too strong of a word. Now, that I'm an "adult" - I understand and agree with him. However.... there is one thing I hate... and that's doing the laundry. I hate every part of the process, especially putting the clean clothes away. I'd rather just let them sit on the dresser and take them as needed.… Continue

I'm not a coffee drinker. I love the smell of coffee, but I'm not crazy about the taste. With that said, I've always wondered why/how people could just hang out at Starbucks all afternoon... and now I know.
I've got the afternoon off from "mommy duty" and decided to play the part of a "cool kid" this afternoon and stop by… Continue

As the mother of a child with Down Syndrome (see Molly's story here), I cried happy tears yesterday for a child I've never even met.
It was homecoming last night for Fletcher High School, here in Jacksonville. Every girl dreams of… Continue

To describe this week's Travel Tuesday, I'm stealing a line from Billy Joel, "You may be right. I may be crazy." Garth Brooks used to sing that song every night on his world tour in the early '90s. With that said, I've loved Garth Brooks since I was 13 years old. I've seen him in concert eight times...and was lucky enough to meet him in 1994. (I'll save that story for another… Continue

Everyone deserves a night out - especially moms! More than often, I put myself last on my priority list. I need to remember that it's important to have time away from my girls and not to feel selfish about it. Saturday night was girls night out and it couldn't have come at a better time. Things have been busy lately and I've been in need of some serious "me" time… Continue

I can't believe I'm about to type these words, but....it's almost time for Christmas! It seems to sneak up on me every year. Each holiday season, I try and find the best deals, all while making sure I buy the "perfect" gift for each of my loved ones. This week, kicks off my Christmas shopping and I'm always looking for better ways to save. But then again, aren't we all?…

Happy Halloween everyone! My husband and I were talking earlier about what our favorite costume was growing up. I didn't even have to think twice...mine was Cruella De Ville. I was an 18 year old college kid and I was *so* mad that I didn't win my school's costume contest. A lot of people didn't even realize it was me underneath that big hairdo! What was your favorite Halloween costume when you were a kid?… Continue

What a busy two days for my little garden gnome and it's not even officially Halloween yet! A few weeks ago, I wrote about whether we would even participate in Halloween since Maggie was still young.. but wow I am so glad we did. She's had a such a fun time so far...and she LOVES wearing the garden gnome costume. Actually, she loves it a little too much. Molly was a cute baby for Halloween this year. (aka She didn't dress… Continue

Once again, I'm having an internal struggle and I need your words of wisdom! In the coming weeks, we'll be saying goodbye to an old friend in our house. Maggie's crib. Our silly Tootie celebrates her second birthday this coming Wednesday (yikes!) and the latest discussion in… Continue

If you are a mom to a toddler, then you know all about Yo Gabba Gabba. Love it or hate it, it's hard to escape their catchy songs. We are huge fans of the show. I'm not even ashamed to admit that I've got 36 episodes saved on my DVR. Maggie loves dancing and laughing along with each episode and her cousins are huge fans too. My sister and I were so excited when the Yo Gabba Gabba Live tour was… Continue

This past weekend, we packed up the girls and headed out to the weekly Riverside Arts Market. We try and get to the market at least twice a month. We enjoy checking out the local art, the featured music performers...and of course the food! We love supporting local farms and buying fresh fruits and veggies for the week. However, this week we missed out on the produce - thanks to a certain two… Continue
