OUR DAILY PINS

Advertisements

There are about four million mom bloggers according to Nielsen. That's a lot of moms who blog. Do you know how to cut through the noise or do you get lost in the sea of mom voices?

It is not easy to cut through the noise, to be sure. Being heard online takes time to develop and its a skill that must be learned. How do you do this?

1. Determine who your audience is?You can't cut through the noise if you have no idea who you are talking to. Are you writing for moms who are looking for daily coupons or product reccomednations? Are you writing for moms who are looking for personal anecdotes about your life? Or, are you writing for search engines? In order to cut through the noise you have to first determine who you are talking to otherwise your chances of being heard are minimalized at the outset.

2. Get Creative, Write Well: The reason great writers are the best is because they write in a way that piques people's interests and speaks to them in new, bold ways. These writers are not afraid to play with their voice and come up with innovative ways to twist and turn the written word while still keeping their writing focused. Work every day to improve your writing. I have written many times before that the best way to improve your writing is to read more. I also like to listen to the BBC and NPR because for some odd reason it makes me think about words differently.

This is a wonderful video that shows the power of words and great writing. It is definitely worth watching.

3. Write Consistently: One of the most powerful ways to cut through the noise is to simply write on a consistent basis. When your writing is reliable you have won half the battle of being heard.

4. Put Yourself Out There: People will be more apt to read your work if they know who you are. Show up at conferences, network online through blog comments, on Twitter and Facebook. Join Google hangouts. Offer to guest post on other blogs to spread your writing and your blog. Most of being heard is simply marketing yourself.

5. Believe in Yourself: The confidence factor is not talked about nearly often enough, especially in the mom blogging world. It is perfectly fine to be confident in yourself and your ability to pen a noteworthy blog. You must have the confidence to cut through the noise otherwise your voice will fade in the background. If you don't want to blend in, take calculated risks and work on your writing tone.
