10 Ways To Connect During The Busy Fall Season

Ideas for how to connect with your family while you are running from one place to another!

Leaves falling, soccer balls, pumpkins, football jerseys, sweatshirts, crisp air...all indicators of autumn in full swing. While parents are busy driving from activity to activity and kids are getting back into the rhythm of school, we often forget how to connect with each other in the midst of all the busy. Here are some ideas:

  1. Get involved! Instead of sitting on the sidelines, volunteer to coach or help out.
  2. Eat dinner together. Do you best to find the time to eat dinner together, without technology, even if it's on the go.
  3. Play in the leaves. The fall is too beautiful not to enjoy. Jump in those leaves, tackle each other!
  4. Watch a sunset or a sunrise together. With the days becoming shorter, we can enjoy this beautiful part of nature.
  5. Get creative. Color, paint, do some artwork together. Kids love getting messy and colorful. We, as adults, should too!
  6. Listen to music...loud. While you are driving from one place to another, play a game of who gets to pick the radio station and connect in a musical way.
  7. Have a family slumber party. Sometimes you may not see your family much during the week. Have a family slumber party on the weekend where you all get to cozy up and watch some family friendly movies. Don't forget to involve the pets!
  8. Get moving. Walk together, go for a bike ride, dance your booty off. The more you move, the better you feel. Let's face it, we all need exercise!
  9. Hug, snuggle, high fives, and healthy touch. We all need to touch. It's important to our health. Find the time to touch your kids in a health way.
  10. Get in touch with nature. While you are watching sports or running around, take the time to notice your surroundings and the beauty that is all around you everyday.

Above all, the reason we are busy is because we want "what is best for our kids." Remember, that what is best for our kids is that we are available and present, tuned into what our kids are needing and doing. Love them, enjoy them, be in the moment with them!
