8 Ways to Make Food Shopping as a Parent More Bearable

5 Space-Saving Tricks To Maximize Space In Your Small Bedroom

It doesn’t matter how big your house is – pretty much everyone thinks they could use a bit more space. Everyone you know talks about how they need to have a major clear out ‘soon’. And everyone gets exasperated at least once a day when tripping over something that should have been tidied away… if only there was room.

But if you have a particularly small bedroom, for example, then the practicality of keeping it tidy and manageable can be a real challenge, no matter how good your intentions are. This is why it’s worth checking out some proven techniques for maximizing that awkward space.

1. Build a window seat with hidden storage

A great place to start is by rethinking those peculiar nooks and angles that sit there unused because nothing quite fits. If you have an alcove window, or even just a window with a space in front of it, consider .

This can be a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by or read a book by natural light; it also means you can throw out that big armchair that takes up half the room already. The chest beneath the seat is ideal for clothes, toys, or just as place to throw stuff when you need to tidy at short notice (we’ve all done it!).

2. Organize your closet like a professional

Next, take everything out of your closet and start again. When you learn to fold your clothes like a pro, you will be stunned how much less space they take up. Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean using the techniques your parents taught you – the clothes-folding techniques in this infographic are likely much more efficient.

3. Choose furniture that serves multiple purposes

Then look at the rest of your furniture. That trick with the window seat can be work again and again. Switch your bed for one with drawers underneath, a bedside table that also acts as a footstool… there are some great ideas for multipurpose furniture right here.

4. Hang corner and high shelves on the wall

And now look up. What are those useless walls doing, just standing there? Corner and perimeter shelves are a great way to put your walls to work. The fab thing about these shelves is that they don’t just find efficient solutions in unexpected places, but they actually add an original and stylish look to your bedroom.

5. Store items behind your bedroom door

There’s one last place to hide that residual clutter: behind your door. There are any number of hangers, baskets, and caddies available in affordable hardware and furniture shops to help you to utilize that vertical space. And if you’re fed up of investing in storage solutions, it’s simple to turn other items and leftover containers into doorway storage too.

It’s easy to escape from the pack and become the person who no longer talks about how they wish they had more space at home. With a bit of inventive thinking, and some smart techniques, you can pack everything away easily and make some room to actually live in!
