We all know life can get pretty crazy sometimes. Everybody seems to be working harder and making less money and complaining more and enjoying life less – at least if you watch the news! For me, one thing that helps is taking time every day to enjoy simple luxuries. And no, I’m not talking about stuff that costs a lot of money or takes up a lot of time. I’m talking about simple pleasures anyone can enjoy if they just take a moment to remember and do it.

Here’s one that works for me. Sometimes, in the middle of the morning, I like to take a break from my work and sit down with a cup of tea. You might be a coffee person, or maybe you’d rather have something cold and refreshing. For me, it’s really relaxing to let the warmth of the steam and the gentle scent of the tea leaves seep into my pores and just sit and sip. It gives me time to reflect on everything I have, on where I am, and on where I want to go. But most of all, it gives me a chance to just BE, rather than DO. At least for a few minutes. Then I go back to doing.

Another thing I love is feeling the ocean breeze. I’m lucky enough to live by the water, and the sensation of that cool, salty breeze on my skin just feels amazing. It reminds me of how lucky I am to live where I am and to have the life I do. But wherever you live, I’m sure there are patches of sunshine to bask in, or cool breezes to feel, or white, puffy clouds to watch as they float across the sky. Even the silky fabric of a favorite piece of lingerie against your skin can remind you of how great it is to be alive. Again, it’s about taking the time to stop, to feel, to smell, to taste. It’s about letting yourself breathe.

Before you go back to work and everything goes crazy again.
