I have learned through my ND that I often stress my adrenal glands, and when I do that I crave sugar and caffeine, am in a constant state of anxiety and cannot sleep. To “deal with this” I tend to eat less food and more sugar and to drink coffee at all hours of the day. This in turn increases my anxiety and makes it harder to sleep. The first time this happened was after I moved with my 11-month-old daughter. Our second move since her birth.
Shortly after the move I became so ill my vision was seriously affected. Doctors could not diagnose what was wrong although they could see swelling in my eye tissue around the optic nerve and to this day there is scar tissue. I went to an ND who first treated my eyes and then began to treat what she believed was an underlying stress problem.
