A Lighthouse! What To Say When Someone Dies.

On a particularly warm day in the October just passed, my beautiful Granny was laid to rest yet, somehow, a little lighthouse stood there, innocently painting smiles where otherwise were tears.

That little lighthouse stands about 3 feet tall, with his messy blonde hair, grubby hands, and a rambunctious yet truly affectionate personality, reminded us of how beautiful life is, when you are surrounded by family and friends that love you unconditionally.

However as our smiles and memories were shared, it was for my dear Granddad, that my heart broke. A man, who in my whole life, I'd only seen inklings of emotion, had just said goodbye to his wife and companion of over sixty years. And, as much as I wanted to just sit there and hug him, I couldn't, as I knew that facing the silent, lost look in his eyes would tear me apart.

But then, something beautiful, as though Granny had whispered it from Heaven, happened.

Michael walked over to Granddad, just held his hand and gave him a hug.

And, once I saw the absolute love and grace on Granddad's face, I knew that, this was exactly what he needed today, unconditional love, his own little lighthouse.
