A few weeks ago I saw a flier for our county fair. I have always loved the county fair...roasted corn on the cob, cotton candy, funnel cake, livestock barns, and ferris wheels. They make me happy...but also sad.
Years ago, while Tom and I were living in New York, we took an early morning drive up the Hudson River to attend the Duchess County fair...in Rhinebeck, NY. It was a perfect late summer day. It was warm and sunny, but we could feel and smell fall in the air. Tom and I grew up on county fairs. He was a farm boy, and I grew up in a small rural community. In college, we would go to the Champaign County fair and watch his nephews show dairy cattle.
