5 Common Fundraising Mistakes that Might Be Hurting Your Organization

Fundraising is hard work, done with the best intentions in mind. While you might get caught up in the spirit of “doing good,” you could be doing it wrong. Whether it’s a communication failure or a lack of foresight, here are five mistakes you’ll want to avoid when…

Life Changes I Wish I’d Made Sooner

By the time I turned 25, I was sure my life was a single-lane highway.

A single-lane highway with no exits. As far as I was concerned, I was headed in the same direction, with no…

3 Easy Ways to Share Nature With Your Kids This Summer

There’s something about the summer that brings out the fun in kids. Long summer days without any thought of school foster the type of carefree living children relish every year. The only bad thing about the summer is it can go by really fast. As parents, it is important to…

Acquiring a Taste for Wine – How to Properly Enjoy This Elegant Beverage

Even if you drink wine regularly, you might not have a developed taste for it. Drinking box wine from your local supermarket does not mean that you know wine, but if you would like to acquire a more elevated taste for this extremely elegant and at times sophisticated beverage, the process is simple and fun.

Expanding your horizon

The first thing you need to do is gain more knowledge about wine in general. The best way to do this is by exploring new environments that revolve around wine. For example, if there is a local wine club, you could check it out. Additionally, if you prefer a digital experience, you could check out sites like Lepetitballon.co.uk which focus heavily on wine-related topics.

Bringing some variety into the fold

As mentioned before, you won’t get far in the wine world by only drinking one type of wine. Add some variety to your wine drinking habits and try different types. You can start off slow and just alternate between a couple of variations of the same wine type (red or white), moving on to noticing the differences between old and new wine. Then, you can take your search of cultivation internationally, and taste some international wines. You will find that foreign wines will taste different, opening the way for a completely new world for you.

Tasting wine properly

The thing about tasting wine is that it’s very simple, but people get things all wrong. It’s not enough to just drink wine to taste it. You need to take a small sip, then pass it around in your mouth until it reaches all the important parts, specifically all your taste buds. Make sure that the wine gets over the tip of your tongue, but also on the sides and the backside. Before swallowing, make sure it touches the back of your mouth. Spitting after tasting is also a practice, in case you plan on tasting a large variety of wines and don’t want to get tipsy.

Vineyards and wine tastings

Once you’ve perfected your technique, you can join wine tasting communities and engage in wine-related activities. Groups often visit vineyards because they are great opportunities for learning about wine, the process of making it and all kind of juicy things about wine history. If you love wine, you must visit at least one vineyard. Wine tastings are usually adjacent to vineyards, but you can find them locally as well.

Wine is a neat hobby to get into, and if you’re drinking and enjoying it already, truly discovering wine and what it can offer can feel like somewhat of a revelation. It’s beyond doubt worth spending the money on a few bottles a week to get familiarized with the different flavors. Once you know what you’re doing, sipping your wine on a nice day will be better than ever.
