An Easy Guide To The ‘Not So French’ French Manicure

Long, dark painted nails are a hype among all age groups of women. But, it does not always go on all occasions. In some parties or occasions when we have to look elegant, a French manicured nail is the perfect match. A light pink or beige base with a white tip, dazzling as the light falls on it is something to be craved for.

French’ French manicure

Is the French manicure really French?

Now, that is a question a woman really wants the answer of. Ask a French this question, he will instantly answer that it is an American invention. So, the French manicure or the ‘la French’ as called in France was basically invented in California. Though the proper history of the origin of manicure is not known, but it is definite that it was invented in the ancient world aimed at providing proper care to the hands. In the first half of the 20th century, the owner of Orly nail polish, Jeff Pink was asked to create a look for the nails that goes with the variety of dresses worn by the hollywood divas. Actresses spent a lot of time changing their nail paints to suit their clothes. This was when Pink came up with the idea of a kind of manicure, where the base will be in nude shades, with painted tips and named it French manicure. Why French manicure is still debatable, but at a glance it can be assumed that everything related to fashion has to be related to Paris in general and France in particular.

How to do a French manicure on your own?

Many brands offers a wide range of manicure kits. First choose the most suitable french manicure kit. Then follow the steps.

  • First step towards french manicure is to trim the nails. Be careful while trimming as cutting the nails will make the nail unsuitable for french manicure. This particular manicure looks good on long nails only.
  • Step two is to give the nails the shape of your choice, whether the square shape or the rounded ones. But, french manicure looks good on the square shaped ones.
  • Next is to clean the nails and remove the cuticles. For this, place the hand in warm water for 5 mins and salt can also be added (optional). If any underlying fungal infection is on the nail bed, the salt will take care of that. Then, with a cuticle pusher push the cuticles and towel dry the hands.
  • Now apply the first coat of polish, it may be transparent or sheer pink, light beige or any nude colour. Allow it to dry.
  • Now, comes the tricky part. Use nail guides that are available in the manicure kit. Place the nail guide on the nail leaving the tip of the nail. In place of nail guide a scotch tape or any transparent tape can be used. Carefully, paint the tip of the nail with white polish. But, some people also prefer other colours over white.
  • To make the French manicure remain longer on the nails, paint a coat of transparent polish on top of the tip.

This is the simplest way to give a french manicure to your hands without going to the salon and spending a large sum of money. Besides, the general french manicure kits, some professional manicure kits also comes which gives the whole look a more professional finish. Though people opt for and experiment with various colours on the tip of the nails, yet it is advisable to use the traditional white one, which gives a classy look to the nails as well as the hands. A French manicure goes with all the outfits and are very popular among different sections of women from all over the world.
