And, The mUm Of The Year Award Goes To!

http://crikeymum.blogspot.com/2010/12/and-mum-of-year-award-goes-to...

I recently posted a video that, while I thought was hilarious, failed to attract the humor within my husband and some others, thus prompting me to question my 'mUm' ethics when it comes to laughing at Michael's accidental mishaps, such as running into walls, falling off his bike...you know that kind of thing.

And, I must say that, after doing a quick flashback of all the times I've gone a*s up as a child, teen and adult, I just don't see it as such a big deal, PROVIDING I know that he hasn't been hurt beyond a bruised ego.

I'm certainly not going to staple a helmet to his head and cover him in bubble wrap, nor am I going to scream hysterically and comfort him every time he scrapes his knee, rather I'm going to make sure that he knows that it's Ok to fall down and laugh at yourself, and if someone else laughs at you (mUm), deal with it, it was probably funny...it's character building!

In saying that, somehow I don't think I'll ever win 'The mUm Of The Year Award', but that's fine with me, as long as Michael grows up to be a solid man, not some Nancy Pants, afraid to laugh at himself or be laughed at man or, a cries at the drop of a hat man.

But, it's not just the boys who need some tough love. Girls are all pretty and nice sure, and that's fine, but you wont' find Alena crying in the corner or throwing like a girl! I'd have to ask mUm and Dad what I was like as a child, but I'd be willing to bet, that considering I grew up with horses biting and kicking me, swimming in the dam with ducks and a whole array of animals, including a goose that chased me, I wasn't exactly a princess.

I love being a mUm, I truly do, and while I'll definitely go all Death Star on your a** if you hurt my child, at the same time, I've got to make sure that he can stand up for himself, be confident about himself, and be responsible for whatever dumb a** things he does, which lets face it, with my and Chad's track record...we're in for all sorts of 'You're Grounded'!

And, if right now you are thinking, 'she's out of her mind, I would never laugh at my child falling down'...that's fine, just don't ever watch America's Funniest Home Video's, as I assure you, you'll have CPS on speed dial!

To finish up, please enjoy and have a laugh (we all did) at Michael's latest daredevil escapade!
