I am a fairly new blogger myself (within the past year or so). I follow many blogs through email subscriptions and iGoogle. I often comment on blogs, but when I don't get a response - it makes me feel like what I write isn't even being read. I love your concept, Cecelia, about emailing even just a one liner to those who write. I think it is so important in building online relationships. I have so much respect for those who take the time to do this - no matter how big or small.

I actually just took a "Blogger's Survey" on my blog and asked this very question. Check out the results when you get a chance - good stuff.

Thanks for bringing up this subject!

It's funny, I framed the post as a question since Ask Baby Kid is in question/answer format, when in reality the answer for most people is a resounding "NO!" Most, like Anne-Marie below, are more than willing to help out those that are just getting started. :)

Cecelia, it's the first time I've come across your blog and will be doing so in the future - love your design. Now as far as "blog snob"? No way. Part of my personal blogging mission is to get more writers blogging and to help newbie bloggers get over the learning curve as quickly as possible so they avoid all the mistakes I did and don't get burnt out on blogging. I'm very happy to give advice and help new bloggers out and am generous with my time. I also try to recognize and recommend smaller less popular bloggers to others. Everyone, including advertisers and mainstream media editors love the more popular bloggers who get oodles of traffic and comments. They tend to get all the attention. Instead, I hope more people go out of their way to find small and new bloggers who are writing terrific content, too.

I am too small to be an elitist. I'll work with anyone! :-D

Such a good topic. I still see myself as a "small" blog. Lots of blogs out there and many that are so much more popular than I'll ever be. I've learned though, that just because have a reputation for being a blog snob doesn't mean they really are. I've reached out to some never expecting a response and was quite surprised. And it goes the other way too.....I've had no response from a few.

Now, some might think I'm a blog snob if they email me and I don't respond. Unfortunately, it's simply because I have 424 emails sitting in my inbox alone, not counting my other folders and they are all screaming for replies so I get easily overwhelmed. There's just not enough time in the day to do it all.

Commenting is another failure of mine. I'll admit, I dont' comment but I read MANY blogs. It's just a time issue....with 4 blogs, contributor to others, family, ranch, etc...it's hard. Will try to work on it in 2009. SO, if you ever visit me and comment, and I don't comment back, please know that it's nothing personal at all...just a time issue. Same goes for email;)

I think it's a really interesting article, and it has some really good points, I mean, who likes a blog snob? Nobody. I know when I first started blogging, I responded to every comment. Every one. And then life happened, and I find myself pregnant with my third, exhausted, and really, it's all I can do to get a post up. I do try to visit the blogs of every person who comments on mine, it may take me a week (or two), but I do it. I think that maybe keeping in the back of your mind that you never really know how chaotic one's life is, is a good rule of thumb.

I don't think I am a blog snob, I actually think I am a "smaller" blog. I have seen a few prominent Mom Bloggers blow smaller bloggers off. I'm not naming names but I've seen it.
