Safety Tips to Prevent Your Dream Pool from Becoming a Nightmare

Whether it’s a cosy hot tub, a full-sized pool or something in between, having a private place to take a dip at home is one of life’s greatest luxuries. There is little that compares to shrugging off the day’s troubles with a few relaxing laps or a good book and the gentle massage of…

OUR DAILY PINS

I am a bit obsessive when it comes to feeding my kids. When I start looking at labels and realizing that EVERYTHING they eat has sugar, salt, and disgusting chemicals it just makes me crazy! Even so-called "healthy" foods like yogurt and granola bars are loaded with refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup. It makes me want to move to a cabin in the woods and feed the kids nothing but berries and leaves! At least I know they'd be eating food that's all-natural, organic and not processed to death!

And you can just forget about finding something healthy when we eat out because it's ALWAYS chicken nuggets and French fries. My daughter will enjoy a salad as long as it's slathered in dressing. But most fast food is processed within an inch of it's life. It's just not natural!

I recently found this article in U.S. News and World Report that gives parents some options when they take their kids out to eat:

Best and Worst Fast Food Kids' Meals - US News and World Report

The report shows that Subway is the healthiest place to take your kids because they offer milk, juice, and apples, and most of their sandwiches are pretty healthy. Taco Bell was the worst because it offered NO healthy options for kids.

Another article revealed some healthy snack options:

Have a "True" Snack: 10 Healthful Snacks That Won't Break the Calor...

This article suggests giving kids a handful of high-fiber cereal or walnuts, some grapes or even peanut butter on whole wheat toast instead of a bag of chips or cheese puffs. I do this anyway. My kids love to eat nuts or raisins as a healthy snack.

What I learned from these reports is that, once again, common sense should rule your parenting decisions. Does the government need to ban all sugary cereals or greasy fast food choices? Heck no! Parents just need to do their homework, read the labels, and be aware of what's in the food their kids are eating.
