I’ve always liked the month of February: my birthday falls on the 8th day of the month, it’s short- bringing us a tad closer to springtime, then there’s the celebration of the Hallmark holiday Valentine’s Day (although I’ve never been much of a heart person). Today, I like February even more because we get to introduce you to Karyn Parsons in celebration of “Black History Month.” What we love about Karyn (a.k.a. Hilary Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel Air) is that she reminds us that we must celebrate Black History everyday - not just during the shortest month of the year. Karyn’s company, Sweet Blackberry, aims to do just that producing one-of-a-kind animated DVD series for children retelling stories of “unsung black heroes.” According to a recent Newsweek article by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman, “See Baby Discriminate,” kids as young as 6 months judge others based on skin color. What the extensive research in this article reveals is that while it’s crucial to educate our children through multi-cultural videos, it is paramount that the conversation about racial equality starts with us, the parents. Read the story in its entirety
. You will be blown away by the findings and will leave knowing how to speak candidly to your children about interracial relationships. We will be giving away autographed T-shirts and photos, as well as the wonderful Sweet Blackberry DVDs, compliments of Karyn to those Butterfly Moms we catch doing something fabulous on MyWorkButterfly.com.
We are also pleased to bring you new and exclusive job opportunities in the month of February beginning with Cigna, an internationally known healthcare provider company. Cigna is actively recruiting “return-to-the-workforce” and working moms looking for a mom-friendly culture to fill several IT and Nursing positions (as well as others). for busy moms like you. There are more jobs to be had from national retailer Jos. A. Bank
, a company looking to hire women who desire a “work-at-home” opportunity.
Let’s make a deal. You promise to embrace “Black History Month” twelve months out of the year and we promise to bring you job opportunities and work/life solutions twelve months out of the year. Deal? Deal!
