This week, I decided that I just need to make more inexpensive meals. I study cookbooks, talk to friends, check out recipes online. I have tried to spend an emergency meal plan like it has been suggested on particular sites. I can never seem to do it. I think prices are more expensive here in Massachusetts.
I bought a turkey and a family pack of hamburg. Of course with the turkey, I got nice hot turkey sandwiches for a Saturday night supper and a huge pot of soup. So there are two meals. The hamburg I browned up all at once. After browning it up, I seperated it. One meal I made another pot of soup called hamburger soup. I didn't need to add alot of hamburg because I added alot of frozen vegetables. The next meal, I made a large pot of rice, added teryaki to that portion of hamburg and mixed them together like a "dirty rice". The rest of the hamburg I am adding to red kidney beans and taco spices and using it for tacos. The hamburg was $6.00 for the package and so here I paid $2.00 for he meat. So this week we had more soup for suppers. Next week, we are going to make pasta dishes. One recipe I came up with is a box of bow pasta. Cook it. I layered the pasta, pepperoni, used
one jar of sauce. I sprinkled some mozarella and parmesian cheese. You can then bake it in the oven or in the microwave. This is cheaper than making american chop suey because of the use of one jar of sauce. I made this a few weeks ago and I had leftover for lunch the next day. I have a family of five. This week I am going to brown up sausage, cook ditalini pasta, and mix them together along with canalini beans and a jar or two of sauce. Make your own sauce if you would like. Use less sausage and add more beans. You can also add water to this to make a soup and just add tons of more spices.
