Now that the kids are back in school, it is time for me to head back to the gym and out on the roads. I am trying to reorganize my life around the nine hours I have free five days a week. A couple of days a week I go to the gym and swim, the other three days I walk...with my dog...he needs the exercise more than me. Huey has lounged around all summer, and he is becoming fat and lazy. To think he was a skeleton when he showed up on our doorstep 10 months ago.


Today we headed out after the girls left for school, and I cleaned up the breakfast dishes. If I don’t get out the door early, I will come up with every excuse in the book not to go at all. I bought Huey a new collar that doesn’t go around his neck, but is a harness. He tends to lunge at other dogs, and I always feel as if I am crushing his windpipe in my attempt to make him heal. I had to adjust it to accommodate his widening girth, but he was patient, and handled it well...and then we were off.
