|Carole Lombard and Clark Gable|
Think classic Hollywood in the 30's. When the likes of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, Rudolf Valentino and Bette Davis, were glamorous and most definitely glitzy. I'm thinking EXPENSIVE, after all, those movie-stars were filthy rich and didn't have a issue treating themselves. That "LOOK" is making a comeback now - and I like it. Not that my style is glitz and glam, but I love old Hollywood and enjoy seeing others who appreciate that style. Fringe is back, lavish crystal chandeliers, lacquered furniture, credenzas, showy fabrics, fur, chaise lounges, and lots of light. It doesn't have to be expensive, if you are like me, and on a budget - since many pieces of furniture can be found in thrift stores and garage sales. Sand it, and spray with black lacquer spray paint. After that, look for the supporting cast - in distinctive pieces that have that glitz to complete your look. Lamps, and side tables, bold colors and accessories that have that jazz. Young people and teens seem to enjoy the Hollywood Regency look in their rooms - They can mix and match what they want from vintage to border-line tacky and they make it work - How about black lacquering that old Queen Anne chair that Uncle Charlie used to sit in, that is just sitting in the attic, collecting dust? That bygone era was as much about people having fun, entertaining, cocktail hour, dinner parties, dressing up - than it was the furniture - it was a magical time for Hollywood as well as home design that we can still enjoy today.
