Today I want to talk about how can you make the MoreSo Way a reality for your business. I want to talk about how Deloitte UK amplifies its 'do good' activities through targeted choices about which businesses are supported through its supply chain.
As a global professional services firm Deloitte has a strong reputation in corporate social responsibility. It includes the Deloitte Social Innovation Pioneers programme. Now in its second year, this programme has seen Deloitte UK provide business support services worth over £1.5 million to 30 social businesses in the UK. It's a fantastic way to utilise and grow the talents of Deloitte UK staff, and at the same time create More Social Good.
Many of you may work in businesses that place great importance on corporate social responsibility. You may have strong ties to charities or charitable events. You may have a volunteering program that staff are encouraged, or required, to participate in. These are valuable initiatives that MoreSo believes should continue. But we can do more, just by running our businesses in a smart way.
Deloitte UK appreciates that 'the butterfly effect' applies to business, as well as to science. That a small change at one location can cause a much greater change elsewhere. Deloitte UK understands that its actions affect not only its own business but society at large. So with this in mind, Deloitte UK has incorporated a number of social businesses into its supply chain.
I understand that you are operating in a commercial context. Procurement has to deliver on quality, service and price. The good news is, it can. Don't assume that social outcomes necessarily mean that you have to significantly compromise on other aspects of product or service delivery. Although that may sometimes be true, increasingly social businesses appreciate that they have to be competitive to survive and to achieve their social mission. It's in all of our interests to encourage these social businesses to prosper.
If you are like me, the Deloitte story really makes you smile on the inside. It's a great illustration for how all businesses can incorporate the MoreSo Way into their procurement policies. Just imagine what it could do for your employees, your customers, your stakeholders if you could replicate some of that magic for your business.
The sky’s the limit! Its great for business and it creates More Social Good.
