Mama’s my youngest child is almost 10 months old and she has started to eat a whole lot more, opting for a whole lot more food than formula. So I figured it was time to turn it up a notch and instead of spending a dollar per jar of food I would make my own. Yall know I love to save money and since baby girl was eating 3-4 jars a day which is roughly $25.00 a week (this does not include formula). So I figured she could eat just about everything I was eating with a few modifications of course for texture and seasoning. So I started with this:

fresh mango

fresh apple (peeled, cored & sliced)

½ cooked steel cut oats

½ cup filtered water

I placed my fruit and water in a small pan and let it simmer on low for 8-10 minutes, until tender. I poured it into my blender with ¼ cup of cooked oatmeal and blended it up until it reached a smooth consistency with a few lumps. My “Hannah Pie” went to town on it. I poured my food into Stage 3 glass baby jars and put them in the refrigerator. I was going to buy some more glass mason jars to make her food on the weekend for the whole week, but then I realized that I had some glass jars in my recycling bin from old foods like relish, almond butter and coconut oil so what better way to reuse them and keep my money in my pockets.

Mama’s I will be making her chicken, rice & veggies this weekend. As a base I will use the homemade chicken broth I made a week ago. I’m going to also try mixing a few fruits together. This has been so much fun for me because I know what my child is eating and I am saving money. If you’re worried about time, DON’T, it took me about 30 minutes total, including cooking the steel cut oats. I encourage you to try your hand at making your own baby food. You don’t have to be a master chef, you just need to write down a plan and make it happen. Go ahead you can do it!

Don’t just live your life, Enjoy it!
