Do You Do Your Own Medical Research Or Do You Leave It To Your Doc?

I do my own research and I think it's high time that doctors get used to us doing this.

Doctors need to adjust to a reality that patients are actively engaging in their own care and should be treated as partners in their care. This means that at times the doctor may disagree with a patient's diagnoses and prognosis. Well as partners do, then the doctor will have to make his case and convince the patient. With a strong partnership, where the doctor is open to the efforts that the patient places in their care, patients will share information they find and with their doctor.  Sometimes, it may be the key to their health and sometimes it may be bad advice or misinformation- and it is exactly in these cases that the importance of a doctor comes into play.

Today it is far more important than in the past that doctors be able to work with people. It may be a challenge for them because the typical doctor is a "science kid" with his head in the books- but to be an effective doctor you need to excel in both medical science and the social science of interacting with all kinds of people.

I did my own research and boy was I glad I did.  Had I not done that, I would have one child on a feeding tube and another with hearing aids. Today, I have two healthy children who have neither.

Black Friday – it’s Not Just About Fashion

Fashion, eh? It comes and goes, then comes back around again, at once fleeting and eternal. A style is in one month and then is never heard of again – until it is heard of again, of course.
