Finding the blessings during difficult situations are a struggle at best. It is easy to get bogged down by the moment your in and not see beyond the stress. My daughter has been in the hospital on and off all her life. Recently this has become a real emotional issue for her. She was unable to see beyond her own concerns. Rightfully so since she is only eleven.

I did not stand by and allow her to wallow in her pity. She is a new believer and I felt this was the time to remind her who she was. I explained to her that although this is a difficult time it had its place in her life. All things have a purpose and all things have a blessing somewhere in them. I also told her that the blessings were not always hers, that she maybe the blessing to others.

In short, this was a moment to teach her that we have to stop and realize our blessings at all times. More importantly we must seek them during times of stress. It gives us perspective and reminds us that it is not all about me. On our last stay she turned to me and said, "I really appreciate my family now. They are truly a blessing to me. I don't think I knew how much till now." Out of the mouth of babes!
