Finding my inner “Skinny Girl” Part 2

Hey Mama’s I wanted to check in and report on how my inner “Skinny Girl” is doing. In case this is your first time reading let me get you up to speed. I have 4 kids ages 8, 6, 3 and 1. I was quite unhappy with my weight and I was mentally ready to do something about it (finally). In March of this year I started eating a Paleolithic (Paleo) diet for myself and my family. On May 15, 2013 I did part 1 of Finding my inner “Skinny Girl”. We are still eating 80% Paleo and I am happy to report that so far I have lost 22lbs and I’m still losing. I have another 10-15 lbs more to go and it’s been so worth it. I feel great and I feel better about my body.

As Mama’s we like to look good and feel good, but sometimes we cover up our real feelings with clothes and other material possessions. Sometimes we look good on the outside but feel horrible on the inside. We look pretty and others tell us so, but on the inside we feel so unpretty. These feelings can wreak havoc on your life. It can take a toll on intimacy and your sex life. The good news is you can do something about it! You can decide to make small changes that add up. I’m not telling you to go “Paleo” just because it works for me. I am saying that you are in control of your life and it’s up to you to make the changes you need to get the results you want.

If you don’t want to do it alone get your friends and family involved so that you all can be accountable to each other. Start by walking, joining a gym or fitness class/boot camp. The most important thing is to start. You may start and have a setback on day 2, that’s ok just keep moving. I tell myself all the time that this is a lifestyle not a fad. I have had 4 kids, gained weight and I’m working hard to get it off and keep it off. Here are 3 things that help me stay focused:

  • #1- Meal Plan- I write down my meals and plan what I am going to eat and drink for the day. You can keep a food journal or use index cards.

  • #2-Prepare the night before- I get my work out gear together at night so all I have to do is get up and get ready to go.

  • #3-Set Goals-I write down how many lbs I want to lose in a month and weigh in weekly to track my progress. Sometimes I make the mark and sometimes I don’t but at least I’m aiming for something.

Mama’s I’m not advocating that everyone needs to be skinny or thin. I am an advocate for women taking care of themselves and being the healthiest they can be. Happy Hump Day and let the fitness begin!

Don’t just live your life, Enjoy it!
