It's Fitness Friday again (Fitness Friday)

My body has been quite tired lately and in a lot of the reading I have been doing lately on exercise, rest days, etc. I decided this week to switch things up and not add a run onto my strength days. My half marathon training guide says I should run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday but rest Monday and Friday. This is great if I was just running but I am not, coupled with Best Body Bootcamp it was starting to wear me down. I think I made a good decision because my workouts have felt better this week and as you will see on Thursday's workout, I had my best pace in a long time.

Here are my workouts for the week:

My Week of Workouts

  • Saturday-unplanned rest day, woke up with a raging sinus infection and spent the day on the couch waiting for antibiotics to kick in
  • Sunday- 10 mile training run on the treadmill in 1 hour 35 minutes and a 3 minute plank
  • Monday- Best Body Bootcamp cardio and strength superset which is a strength move followed by a cardio burst. For example, I did 10 crossover pushes (10 on right and 10 on left) followed by 20 seconds of high knees. There were 5 different exercises and I completed 5 rounds.
  • Tuesday-another unplanned rest day, was up late Monday and chose sleep over working out because I was substitute teaching all day and then by the time I got home I was exhausted so no workout.
  • Wednesday- Best Body Bootcamp cardio and strength superset. They were different exercises then Monday. I did 5 rounds.
  • Thursday- 4 mile training run on the treadmill in 35 minutes and a 3 minute plank. My fastest pace since needing to take a break from running late last summer!! I am very happy with this time and hope it increases even more before my half marathon on April 13th.
  • Friday-Best Body Bootcamp double ladder. A double ladder is 2 exercises, in this case it is a strength exercise and a cardio power exercise, cardio power exercise=burpees. It means I started with 10 reps of the strength exercise followed by 2 burpees, then 8 reps of the strength exercise followed by 4 burpees. You continue until you reach 2 of the strength exercise and 10 of the cardio burst. This week I followed the directions and only did 3 rounds and a 3 minute plank.

This is the last week for Best Body Bootcamp until the next round starts the beginning of April, I can't wait! I am sad to see it go but I will be revisiting my favorite strength workouts in my month off. Remember if you want to join in the fun for the next round of Best Body Bootcamp, sign up starts Monday, $25 for 8 weeks of awesome workouts and the chance for cash prizes.

I am excited because the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge starts Monday! This is a different kind of challenge but still about getting healthy and being active. Instead of being sent weekly workouts, I will log in and get points for my activity, 1 point per 10 minutes of activity. I can also get points for eating fruits and vegetables. You receive a half marathon training plan, a basic strength training plan plus there is a panel of experts available for questions. The panel consists of trainers, a dietetic intern, holistic health coach, yoga instructor, running coach and life coach. I think this will be a great challenge as I get ready for my half marathon and swim suit season. There is still time to join this challenge as well, it runs between $10-$45 depending on what you want for a 7 week challenge and this one has prizes too!!

I normally don't post on the weekends, but I am copying an idea from other bloggers and will be posting about my favorite blog articles that I read during the week. I will post one every Saturday to give you some weekend reading.

Question of the day:

I despise wearing....

I despise wearing wool. I find wool to be the itchiest fabric in the world. I can tell if something has wool in it the moment I put it on and then I can't get it off fast enough. It makes my skin crawl. This is one of the main reasons I don't own a lot of sweaters or at least cozy warm sweaters because they all contain wool.

What do you despise wearing?
