TGI-mother f'in-F!! I have been EXHAUSTED all week long and I'm SO ready for the weekend. This is the first time daylight savings has totally kicked my butt. I haven't worked out once all week! I just can't seem to drag my butt out of bed at
what still feels like 4:00 am but is really 5:00 am. My treadmill and I are no longer on speaking terms so I'm thinking I might have to do a little kissing and making up with it this weekend.
Regardless, it's finally Friday and that means it's time for a fun fact! Today's fun fact was suggested by my friend Kim. I'd love to link you to her site but I don't have the link. Kim if you are reading and want to share the link to your forum journal feel free to leave it in your comment.
Now, onto the fun! So I'm wondering, did you realize that today is once again Friday the 13th? Not only that but tonight there is also a FULL MOON!
NOT THAT KIND OF MOON!!!! This kind of moon! Geeez...
*pauses for dramatic effect*
During any given year there is at least one Friday the 13th, and at the most there can be three. This year is topping the charts with three Friday the 13ths occurring in 2009;
February 13th, March 13th, and November 13th!
Now if you're like my friend Kim this totally freaks you out. Watch out for black cats, stay away from ladders, don't step on any cracks and don't you DARE drop that mirror!!!!
No really, don't drop it, I think I have something stuck in my teeth and I really
need to use that thing.
For me, the number 13 has never been a source of bad luck. In fact I've always experienced the opposite effect. Most Friday the 13ths turn out to be pretty good days. I mean heck, it's FRIDAY. That alone makes it pretty great right?
So I was checking out Wikipedia
and I found this little interesting nugget of information:
Rate Of Accidents
There are conflicting studies about the risk of accidents on Friday the 13th. The Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics (CVS) on June 12, 2008, stated that "fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday than on other Fridays, because people are preventatively more careful or just stay home." Statistically speaking, driving is slightly safer on Friday 13th, at least in The Netherlands; in the last two years, Dutch insurers received reports of an average 7,800 traffic accidents each Friday; but the average figure when the 13th fell on a Friday was just 7,500. However, a 1993 study in the British Medical Journal that compared the ratio of traffic accidents between Friday the 6th and Friday the 13th, stated that there is a significant increase in traffic-related accidents on Fridays the 13th.
What do YOU think? Is Friday the 13th an unlucky day or just a superstition????
