Symptoms to Take Notice of in Children

The NHS has been facing ever-increasing pressures in recent years, with slashed budgets, staff shortages and lack of resources taking its toll on the quality of care. One of the many ways we commonly see the impact of these pressures is in waiting times for GP…

Mother of the Bride Guide

The day you’ve dreamed of for years has finally arrived! Your little girl is all grown up and has chosen a partner to start her life with, and you are officially a MoB -- Mother of the Bride! While congratulatory remarks are appropriate at this juncture, so are a few…

How to Through A Larger Than Life Small Wedding on a Budget

This one is as simple as crowdfunding your honeymoon. It might sound strange at first, but do you really need another blender or set of dinner plates? Instead of having your guests purchase a bunch of things you’ll end up trying to return anyway, why not let them chip in for…

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2013/03/22/hockey-themed-birthday-party/

Our little guy, Rocco turned 5 on March 10th and being that his latest obsession is hockey & ice-skating, it was only fitting to throw him a hockey/skating themed party!

But here’s the catch.  I delivered our 3rd baby boy 2 weeks before his birthday so this party was thrown together last minute!  Why am I telling you that?  Because it goes to show that with a few phone calls, a little planning, time on Pinterest and 1 trip to the store, you too can throw together a fun ice-skating/hockey party for your little one too!

Here are some ideas for the hockey & ice-skating kid in your life!

Hockey Skate Cookie Favors, Hockey Confetti for Food & Dessert Tables, Gatorade wrapped with a Hockey Sticker Label, 2 Hockey Themed Games, Hockey Stick & Puck Cupcakes and Brownie Hockey Sticks

: OUR PARTY DETAILS :

Balloon:

Number ’5′ Extra Large Party Balloon- Purchased at Giant Eagle Grocery Store

Games:

Pin the Puck on the Goalie (see photos above)

Directions- Each player gets a round hockey puck (cut out of black construction paper with double stick tape on the back).  Blindfold each player and spin them around 3 times.  Guide them to ‘Pin the Puck on the Goalie’! Each of our guests won a prize (candy, small toy, etc.) but for older players, you can make it more specific as to where they need to place the ‘puck’, such as on the bottom of the hockey stick.

Hot Puck

Directions- This game is played just like ‘Hot Potato’, with a Foam Hockey Puck such as this one.

Food & Dessert:

Having just had a C-Section, I was in no shape to cook so I put chips & pretzels on each table for the kids to snack on and we ordered pizzas & hoagies from the best place in town; aPizza Badamo!

Cupcakes: I like to think that I could have made the cupcakes had I not just had a baby so I’d encourage you to try it for your hockey party.  They are chocolate cupcakes with butter-cream icing and the hockey sticks & pucks are hand ‘drawn’ with icing.  (You could also use fondant!) I showed a picture to the bakery and had them make them for our party!  Much easier than cutting and serving cake!

Brownie Hockey Sticks: Such a fun treat for the kids that sticks with the theme!

(Idea found on Pinterest and Photo from SavvyMom.)

Favors:

We ordered hockey skate cookies from a local company, ‘Give Mia Cookie’ and she wrapped and tagged them for us too!  You can check her out on Facebook and if you do, please let her know that our PiggyToes sent you!  Everyone raved about them and I’ll definitely be using her again in the future!

After games, food, fun and sweets, the kids made their way to the rink and had a great time ice-skating!  This party came together in no time and we had such a great time celebrating our 5 year old little guy, Rocco!
